Director Mani Ratnam delivered the superhit film Oh Kadhal Kanmani earlier this year, clearly indicating that he’s back on track to treat the audience with quality films. After he tasted success with this film, it was reported that he’s working on a multi–starrer that’ll feature the biggest names in the film industry. The big names included Mahesh Babu, Shruti Haasan, Nagarjuna, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Sounds promising, right? But sadly, the film did not take off. It wasn’t clear why the project was called off, though date issues with each of the actors were being speculated as the reason behind this.
Mani Ratnam’s next
Mani Ratnam soon moved on to his next project. It was announced that Karthi
and Dulquer Salmaan were to be part of his next film. Karthi began his career as an Assistant Director to Mani Ratnam,
while Dulquer Salmaan
was the lead actor of his film Oh Kadhal Kanmani. Nithya Menen
and Keerthi Suresh
were slated to play the female leads in this film. The film required Karthi to go in for a complete makeover, to play the role of a guy who hails from North Madras,
while Dulquer would play the role of a city boy. Everybody loves to see actors play different roles on screen, and given that it was Mani Ratnam’s project, everybody was waiting eagerly for more details about this film.
The Casting Trouble
The film landed in trouble when Dulquer Salmaan walked out of the project citing date issues. The director roped in Telugu actor Nani to replace Dulquer. Karthi was the next person to drop out of the project. If the latest reports are to be believed, now the entire project has been dropped due to the lack of a solid cast.
Mani Ratnam to team up with Dhanush?
Now, rumor has it that Mani Ratnam is in discussions with Dhanush for his next film. But with Dhanush busy with director Vetrimaaran‘s Vada Chennai and Prabhu Solomon‘s next, will the two be able to collaborate? We’ll have to wait and watch!
