It was only last week when Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming film Padmaavat met with some unexpected and unfortunate hurdles. While shooting in Jaipur, the film’s set was vandalised and the crew and reputed director were assaulted by members of a cast organisation. The reason: Rumors that the film was distorting facts and Rajasthan’s history.

This is not the first time that Indian cinema has been attacked by certain groups and individuals so insecure about their nationalities, casts and history. This has happened a few too many times before unfortunately and the very same few artists raise their voices with no one really listening. However, for a change, the Padmavati attack saw several celebrities stand up in support of Sanjay Leela Bhansali making themselves quite vocal in condemning these attacks. Here is what they had to say.

Karan Johar

One director who has always stood up against such attacks and has even been at the receiving end of them too, Karan Johar refuses to accept silently.

Alia Bhatt

Even Alia Bhatt had something to say and actively retweeted several other tweets by Bollywood actors.

Farhan Akhtar

Farhan Akhtar calls for some action.

Sushant Singh Rajput

Sushant even dropped his last name for a day from his twitter handle as a sign of protest.

Shahid Kapoor

Shahid Kapoor plays one of the leads in Padmavati and tweeted about how violence is unacceptable.

Deepika Padukone

Deepika plays the role of Queen Padmavati in the film and tweeted too with the trending hash tag #IstandwithSLB

Priyanka Chopra

Sonam Kapoor

Sonam Kapoor responded to PM Modi’s tweet with this.

Ranveer Singh

Ranveer who is also part of the film confirmed that the film has no intentions of hurting anyone’s sentiments.

Arjun Kapoor

Arjun Kapoor expressed his shock with this tweet.

Several other celebrities and journalists tweeted against these attacks and we couldn’t agree more with all of them.
