No matter how much you argue or fight with your mother, you will always hold a special place for her in your heart. Throughout many years, Bollywood has portrayed the mother-child bond in movies and introduced us to a variety of filmy versions of our real life mothers, who we will remember forever. Most of these ‘typical Indian mother’ characters had something unique about them that enhanced and added a refreshing motherly touch to the story. That is what made them cool and proved us that moms can be cool without being overly dramatic all the time. At some point, they also must have made you exclaim, “maa ho toh aisi!

So if you are wondering who these cool mothers are, scroll down to find out.

Jennifer Kapur (Jaya Bachchan) – Kal Ho Na Ho
It’s definitely not easy for a single parent to take care of a big family while dealing with other family and financial issues. In this movie, Jennifer not just did that but also showed us how to forgive, accept, and love someone unconditionally.
Sashi (Sridevi) – English Vinglish
In this movie, we saw how a language barrier can create rifts in a family. But then through Sashi, it also showed us that if you have the will to learn something you can achieve anything without falling apart from your family.

Dolly (Dolly Ahluwalia) – Vicky Donor
She is the
bindas, carefree Punjabi mom. The way she downs a peg, one after another, showed us that mothers are allowed to let their hair down and enjoy. It’s the best sight that will make you want to groove with your mother.
Chanda (Swara Bhaskar) – Nil Battey Sannata
Every parent wants their child to be successful in life. They want their children to not make the same mistakes and face tough times that they went through. Chanda wants her daughter to pursue her education and so she becomes a good role model for her.

Savitri (Ratna Pathak) – Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na
She is a single mom and a part time activist who is witty and has developed a friendly bond with her son. Like all moms, she too was protective of her son at first but later she accepts the change and stays cool about it.

Manju, Mrs. Acharya & Parminder Prakash (Kirron Kher)Khoobsurat, Dostana, Hum Tum
Kirron Kher has mostly played the roles of dramatic, bubbly moms. Her role in Khoobsurat portrayed the friendly yet dramatic bond with her daughter, in Dostana it dealt with accepting gay relationships, and in Hum Tum it brought out that joie de vivre attitude. All of these characters made us fall in love with Kirron Kher and her characters and proved that only she can pull off these roles.
