Salman Khan’s next film, Sultan, will be out this Eid. The actor has already given a nod for Kabir Khan and Rajkumar Santoshi’s next projects which are slated to release for Eid and Diwali 2017 respectively. Most of the festive slots of 2016 and the next year have been booked by certain films. Shivaay and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil will hit theatres this Diwali and Aamir Khan’s much-awaited film, Dangal, will release for Christmas. All these release dates are confirmed but a few courageous filmmakers may bring their films out on the same day. Very often smaller films are released around the time of a biggie and here are the times when the strategy failed to work. (We really want to know what these makers were thinking).

Ra One – Tell Me Oh KhudaShah Rukh Khan in Ra One Bollywood Movie - BookMyShow

Esha Deol‘s career was clearly going nowhere when her mother, Hema Malini, decided to make the film Tell Me Oh Khuda. Directed by the veteran actress herself, the film released alongside Shah Rukh Khan’s Ra. One. As expected, Tell Me Oh Khuda failed to get enough shows and was a dud at the box-office. We hope that if at all Hema decides to make another film for her daughter, she chooses the release date wisely.

Taare Zameen Par – Return of Hanuman Aamir Khan in Taare Zameen Par Bollywood Movie - BookMyShow

Anurag Kashyap’s ambitious project, Return of Hanuman, came out just a week after Aamir Khan’s directorial debut, Taare Zameen Par. Kashyap wanted to release the film on the same day as TZP and claimed that it could do equally well. The decision to release it a week later, too, backfired as the Darsheel Safary starrer was the first choice of moviegoers.

Mere Brother Ki Dulhan – That Girl in Yellow BootsKatrina Kaif in Mere Brother Ki Dulhan Bollywood Movie - BookMyShow

Kashyap was at it once again. He had planned to release That Girl in Yellow Boots on the same day as Yash Raj Film’s Mere Brother Ki Dulhan. The Imran Khan-Katrina Kaif movie had a lot of buzz around it and Anurag was forced to release his film a week prior to it. That Girl in Yellow Boots was out in a week and later Kashyap blamed the debacle on Mere Brother Ki Dulhan

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na – Love Story 2050Imran Khan Genelia Deshmukh in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na Bollywood Movie - BookMyShow

Both, Love Story 2050 and Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, featured debutants as the lead actors but the former was clearly the more hyped film. Aamir Khan‘s brilliant marketing strategies and the Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na‘s youth appeal made it a winner at the box-office. Love Story 2050, on the other hand, was a disaster and the makers lost a lot of money.
