Only a few people were actually awaiting a sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which had got a lukewarm response from the critics post its release in 2011. However, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, directed by Matt Reeves, turns out to be surprisingly remarkable. An intense film on interspecies conflict and struggle for survival. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, will amaze you. Matt Reeves adroitly plays with the hackneyed themes of trust and power. And he presents an extraordinary epic on humanity and savagery.

Rupert Wyatt’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes concluded with the relation between humans and animals in tatters. Matt Reeves skips 10 years with this film. Humanity is on the brink of extinction, due to a devastating lab-grown virus. On the other hand, the highly-intelligent apes led by Caesar (Andy Serkis) builds up a strong community in the wilds. However, they are threatened by a band of human survivors, which eventually leads to a bloody combat.

The characters are perfectly-styled. Caesar is an ideal leader. He is calm, wise and strong. After brilliant performances as Gollum in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Captain Haddock in The Adventures of Tintin, and as Kong in King Kong, it isn’t surprising to see Andy Serkis give another stellar performance. He is so eloquent as Caesar, that it will move you. Koba played by Toby Kebbel brings out the necessary evil in the film. His hunger for revenge makes him wild and blood-thirsty. His menacing looks will send chills down your spine. If Caesar is a compassionate leader, Koba reverberates of a strong yet insolent warmonger. However, we wish there was more of Gary Oldman as Dreyfus.

Reeves perfectly employs the elements of a sci-fi fantasy with thought-provoking drama. Aided with the masterful cinematography by Michael Seresin, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is also visually-stunning. You are transported to a dark forest, enveloped with clouds and mist. The 3D is unquestionably stunning. The details are impeccable which helps to build up the emotional texture of the film.

Reeves did an incredible job with Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. The story develops slowly yet precisely.

Why should you watch the film?
It is a true spectacle. There is Suspense, Thrill, Drama and whole lot of Action. If Transformers somewhat left you heart-broken, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes will revive you. It is more than a tale of survival. It is about the complexities of the mind and relationships.
