Almost a decade ago, a young lean guy made his debut in a Mahesh Bhatt movie, Footpath. Belonging to a non-filmy background, nobody knew that this guy will make it big in Bollywood one day. We are talking about “The Serial Kisser of Bollywood”, Emraan Hashmi, who is considered as one of the most bankable actors of the industry. He is one of the few actors who can carry a film to success on his shoulders all alone. The 35 odd films that he has acted in have fetched business in excess of Rs 500 crore just in India.

As the actor turns a year older today, here's 5 Films of Emraan Hashmi where he proved why he is much more than a serial kisser on screen.

1. Jannat

Released right in the middle of the IPL season when even the big banners avoid releasing their film, Jannat managed to grab eyeballs and register a success at the box office. It was a love story set in the backdrop of match fixing. For the first time, Hashmi was praised for his acting skills and this film proved to be the turning point of his career.

2. Raaz: The Mystery Continues

This was the second movie of the Bhatt franchise, Raaz, where in Emraan played the role of a passionate painter. He did full justice to his character of a man torn between his conscience and his ego. Another highlight of the film was his superb on-screen chemistry with Kangana Ranaut.

3. Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai

Set in the 1980's and said to be loosely based on relationship between Haji Mastana and Dawood Ibrahim, Emran played the latter in this crime drama by Balaji Productions. His badass attitude and powerful dialogue delivery in the film were a treat to watch. He played his part brilliantly and was well appreciated for it both by the masses and critics alike.

4. The Dirty Picture

In a woman-centric film like The Dirty Picture, Emraan held his own alongside an ensemble cast which included Vidya Balan and Naseeruddin Shah. He was quite impressive with his subdued yet powerful portrayal of an artistic film maker in the film.

5. Azhar

One of the best roles of Emraan Hashmi, where he proved his worth as an actor, is Azhar. Based on the life of former Indian Cricketer Mh. Azharuddin, the actor donned almost every facet of the cricketer with absolute panache in the movie. The movie didn’t rake in the moolah at the cash registers, but Emraan's portrayal of Azharuddin was widely appreciated. His mannerisms, batting style and the overall attitude as the cricketer were on-point.

From being tagged as “Bollywood Serial Kisser” to a “Character Actor”, Emraan Hashmi has come a long way.
