One of Hollywood’s finest veterans, Martin Scorsese has made an enormous impact in cinema. A name synonymous with cinema, he has completed nearly 50 years in the business. The king of gangster films, Scorsese’s favorite actor to work with was Robert De Niro, and together they have made a handful of blockbusters. He has even worked with Leonardo DiCaprio and they’ve made a fair share of brilliant films too. In five decades, he has given us some amazing films. In 2019, we will finally see his newest creation, The Irishman, which features De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, and Harvey Keitel. What an absolutely gargantuan gangster film that will turn out to be! But before, let’s take a look at his most important films from each decade.

’60s

Who’s That Knocking on My Door (1967)
Well, this was his only film from the 60s. It was his first-ever film, of the many that followed.

’70s

Taxi Driver (1976)
Robert De Niro carries this brilliant vigilante film. Scorsese began to make a name for himself out there, with films like Mean Streets (1973) and New York, New York (1977) as well.

’80s

Raging Bull (1980)
One of the greatest sports films ever made, this biographical drama features De Niro as the lead actor as well. He also temporarily switched off from his mastered genre of gangster films, making a comedy movie out of nowhere, called The King of Comedy (1983), another De Niro starrer.

’90s

Goodfellas (1990)
The 90s could be called the decade of Scorsese. He started with this gangster classic, followed by the thriller Cape Fear just a year later and another classic Casino in 1995.

’00s

Gangs of New York (2002)
This epic period film is a significant one. It was followed by further DiCaprio-starrers like The Departed (2004) and The Aviator (2004).

2010s

The Irishman (2019)
After all these years, we will finally be getting a look at The Irishman which seems to be much like the classic films that he’s made in the past. By teaming up with Netflix, Scorsese has also made a leap forward for the collaboration between streaming platforms and established filmmakers. This decade also had Shutter Island (2010), a psychological thriller that was followed by Hugo (2011), an adventure drama, making it a very welcome change. The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) where he teamed up with Leonardo DiCaprio was a riot and his last film, Silence (2016), was also well-received.
