From the producers of Stranger Things and Arrival, The Darkest Minds is based on the books by Alexandra Bracken. It is a gritty drama where adults fear anyone under 18 because of their strange powers and are detained by the government. But if you’re not sure if this is the movie for you, don’t worry, we’re here to help you out. If you have seen any of these movies, you need to add The Darkest Minds to your must-watch list.

The Hunger Games

The series that launched Jennifer Lawrence into stardom has many elements in common with The Darkest Minds – from teenagers in life-threatening situations to adults that can’t be trusted, including the actress Amandla Stenberg who played Rue.

Chronicle

Chronicle is one of the few films that have explored the concept of teenagers with superpowers realistically. The Darkest Minds seems to be just like Chronicle in that it won’t shy away from showing the dark parts of what it’s like to have teenagers possessing enormous amounts of power.

The Girl With All The Gifts

A book adaptation just like The Darkest Minds, The Girl With All The Gifts has children who have a different type of power – they’re practically super-strong zombies who terrify adults so much they’re kept restrained. If you liked this, you’re sure to love The Darkest Minds.

Power Rangers

Power Rangers had a group of teenagers with superpowers come together for a common goal. If you have loved watching the Power Rangers over the years and not just this film, you will love seeing some teenage superheroes in a slightly darker world where they aren’t all trusted to be the good guys.

The Maze Runner

The Maze Runner had a charismatic main character along with many other supporting characters that weren’t just left in the background. Together, these teenagers fought to escape the control of an oppressive government facility, much like what will happen in The Darkest Minds.

X-Men

The X-Men movies have shown us many mutants and the negative attitude of the humans towards them. However, they majorly focus on adult mutants and we don’t learn much about their developing years as teenagers. While we’ll have The New Mutants coming out soon, The Darkest Minds will fill that gap of seeing teenagers with a range of abilities for now.

The Darkest Minds is scheduled to release in theatres on 3rd August, 2018. If you haven’t seen the trailer already, you can see it here:
