After the underwater hero who is usually regarded as a pop culture punchline made his debut in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice followed by a battle in Justice League, fans have been impatiently waiting to see more of Aquaman. Now, Jason Momoa has finally returned to his role as King of Atlantis for a dedicated solo movie. However, it’s not just him that we’re excited to see. There’s so much more left to be explored on the big screen. To do that, director James Wan has an epic cast lined up for Aquaman. Let’s check them out!
Amber Heard as Mera
Aquaman would be incomplete without this warrior princess and, boy, does Amber Heard make her look badass! The powerful daughter of the king of the Atlantean tribe of Xebel, she plays an irreplaceable role in Arthur Curry’s journey and her relationship with him is vital to his role as Aquaman the King of Atlantis.
Nicole Kidman as Atlanna
Nicole Kidman steps into the role of the queen of the high seas and she definitely looks the part. The film’s multiple trailers show snippets of her love story with Arthur’s dad who is a lighthouse keeper. Both coming from very different worlds, their relationship is important to their son who grows up to become Aquaman. The trailers also make it obvious that Atlanna is a fitting queen to Atlantis and she’s definitely not to be messed with.
Willem Dafoe as Vulko

Willem Dafoe‘s Nuidis Vulko was originally supposed to be introduced to us last year until his scenes were unfortunately cut out of Justice League. We’ll finally see him in Aquaman as he plays the role of young Arthur Curry’s mentor. In the trailers, we see him help Arthur channel his special abilities and train in Atlantean combat. As Arthur embarks on his quest in the film, we’ll finally find out if Vulko is truly a trustworthy ally to Aquaman.
Patrick Wilson as Orm
Or should we say King Orm? Patrick Wilson steps into the role of the Ocean Master and Arthur Curry’s half-brother. The current King of Atlantis definitely has a bone to pick with the surface world since they’ve been polluting the oceans and destroying the underwater world. As he plots war to seek vengeance he doesn’t hesitate to go up against half-Atlantean Arthur. The trailers also teased an especially epic sequence with Orm riding a majestic armored shark. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta
Aquaman won’t just have his half-brother to deal with. He will have to battle a secondary villain who seems to have a deep-seated grudge. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II plays the heavy-armored high-seas mercenary who is determined to bring Arthur Curry down. And he’s definitely a worthy foe with his high-tech diving suit designed to survive the crushing pressures of the deep and grant Manta super-strength. The suit’s signature manta-shaped helmet is also capable of firing destructive optic blasts.
That’s not all, folks. You can also expect to see a super special cameo in the film. Recent reports have revealed that Julie Andrews will be voicing a mythic character named Karathen. Karathen has been described as an “undersea creature that holds the key to Arthur Curry’s quest to unite the Atlantean and surface worlds.” If that doesn’t get you excited, we don’t know what will!
Aquaman is set to make a splash in theaters on 14th December, one week before the 21st December US release. Stay tuned to this space for the review!
