American Assassin 2017 - BookMyShow

Everything You Need To Know About American Assassin

American Assassin (not to be confused with American Made) brings another fictional hero to the big screen. You've seen Jason Bourne, Jack Reacher, and now we have Mitch Rapp, the creation of author Vince Flynn. But just having a 16-book series with millions of copies sold worldwide wasn't enough to get Mitch Rapp to Hollywood. It took nearly 10 years for the film to get made, and now finally, four years after the death of Vince Flynn, we will get to see it in theaters.

Director: Michael Cuesta

Cast: Dylan O'Brien, Michael Keaton, Taylor Kitsch, Sanaa Lathan, Scott Adkins

Release Date: 15th September 2017

Dylan O'Brien (from the show Teen Wolf and another book-to-film series The Maze Runner) is the star, and he's not playing his usual fare of a pretty-faced teen heartthrob. It's a new stage in the young actor's career which wouldn't have happened if Chris Hemsworth wouldn't have turned down the role due to scheduling issues. Accompanying him is none other than Michael Keaton, whose last role was as Vulture – one of the few villains in the Spiderman movie universe to have a driving personality. American Assassin also stars Taylor Kitsch, who appeared in True Detective, in what seems to be a negative role.

American Assassin is about Mitch Rapp, played by Dylan O'Brien, a counterterrorism agent who can take down his enemies with both his guns and his hands. Keaton plays his equally badass mentor, Stan Hurley. But he didn't start out as an intense killing machine – and this is the film that shows you what happens into his life that turns him into a fearsome CIA agent

Dylan O'Brien went through a grueling eight-week training to acquire the skills for American Assassin, showing quite the dedication especially as he was seriously injured on the set of the latest Maze Runner. Michael Keaton also appears to be in top form as he trains the rookie in the art of killing and decapitating people.

The director Michael Cuesta has directed episodes of Homeland and Dexter in the past. The music is given by Steven Price who also gave music to Baby Driver, which released earlier this year.

With such a promising cast and crew, there are hopes for the film to be a treat for fans of the books and fans of good movies alike. American Assassin is based on the eleventh book that was released in the series but is actually the first one in the chronological order. But the action flick doesn't need a background for you to enjoy it.
