Everyone knows about the legendary outlaw Robin Hood and how he stole from the rich and gave to the poor. His story has even been adapted into countless movies, right from the time when movies were silent. He’s been in Shrek and he’s been a part of television shows like Once Upon A Time and Doctor Who, but it’s been far too long since we saw the master thief’s story and the latest adaptation couldn’t have come at a better time.

Director: Otto Bathurst
Writers: Ben Chandler, David James Kelly
Cast: Taron Egerton, Jamie Foxx, Jamie Dornan, Ben Mendelsohn
Release Date: 23 November, 2018

Taron Egerton is playing the titular role of Robin Hood. Taron Egerton is no stranger to action films and you may recognize him from his role as Eggsy in the Kingsman movies. He has gone from playing a spy to a famous robber, who is a war-hardened Crusader in the film. The character has been played by many actors over the years – Kevin Costner, Cary Elwes, Russel Crowe, and Sean Connery to name a few – so Taron Egerton’s portrayal will be up against some great performers.

This is going to be director Otto Bathurst‘s first big-budget Hollywood film. He’s had a great run so far as he’s directed episodes of critically acclaimed shows such as Peaky Blinders and Black Mirror. The action is definitely going to be a big part of the film and they’ve gone all out to choreograph the fight sequences. Taron Egerton trained with Lars Andersen, who is one of the world’s top modern archers and gained fame after going viral on YouTube with videos that show his archery skills.

Besides Taron, there are quite a few others in the cast who you can eagerly look forward to seeing in the film. Jamie Foxx plays Little John, who is Robin of Loxley’s Moorish commander who leads the fight against the corrupt English crown. Jamie Dornan, who became famous after playing the lead in the 50 Shades of Grey movies, is also in the film playing Will Scarlet, Robin Hood’s half-brother. With the good guys being the robbers in Robin Hood, the bad guys would have to be the cops. And who could’ve been the best person to play the Sheriff of Nottingham than everyone’s favorite bad guy, Ben Mendelsohn? Just in the last few years, he’s played the villain in big films like Ready Player One, Darkest Hour, and Rogue One. There’s also going to be some romance in the film with the love interest being played by Eve Hewson, who’s best known for being in Steven Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies.
