The Most Important MCU Movies You Need To (Re)Watch Before Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel is one of the most-awaited movies of the year. It is going to be the first MCU film to feature a female superhero in the lead and it will also most likely hold some major clues as to what will go down in Avengers: Endgame. However, if you aren’t familiar with the comics and don’t have time to watch all twenty films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe before the film releases on the 8th of March, you can simply see these films for a more than sufficient background to follow what happens in Captain Marvel.

Iron Man

Iron Man was the beginning of everything. S.H.I.E.L.D. is going to have ties with Captain Marvel and this film will give you an introduction to what the agency is. It also features the first appearances of Nick Fury and Phil Coulson who have important parts to play in Captain Marvel.

The Avengers

Besides being the first time that all our major heroes get together, The Avengers is the next in the series that gives us more detailed information about S.H.I.E.L.D. and how it operates.

Guardians of the Galaxy

Guardians of the Galaxy is perhaps the most important MCU film to see before Captain Marvel. This is where we learn about Krees. Captain Marvel is half-Kree and half-human, so this will give you some key information about her background while also showing a look of the space world we’ll get to see more of in Captain Marvel.

Avengers: Infinity War

Avengers: Infinity War was the first film that directly references Captain Marvel. Spoiler alert, Nick Fury is shown using a pager to contact her before getting dusted. This scene has been the focal point of many theories and it might also tie into any post-credits scene that might be in Captain Marvel.

Bonus: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

While not a film, the Marvel show delves into the story behind the Krees and Skrulls and why they are at war. The two species will be prominently featured in Captain Marvel, so if you want to know more, you can catch up on season five of the show.
