The biggest star-studded movie of the year is finally here. Based on Agatha Christie’s detective novel, Murder on the Orient Express is a murder mystery film directed by Kenneth Branagh. The name would sound familiar if you have watched his previous works – Cinderella, Thor, Sleuth, and Much Ado About Nothing. The director also plays the titular character in the film as Detective Hercule Poirot. If you have read the novel or even watched its many adaptations, you probably have an idea where the story goes. But for those unknowing folks, here’s what you need to know about this gripping story.

Many passengers are aboard the legendary Orient Express. There is the haughty Russian Princess Dragomiroff (Judi Dench), her maid Hildegarde Schmidt (Olivia Colman), the detective mentioned above, academic Gerhard Hardman (Willem Dafoe), governess Mary Debenham (Daisy Ridley) with Dr Arbuthnot (Leslie Odom Jr), the religious Pilar Estravados (Penélope Cruz), widow Mrs Hubbard (Michelle Pfeiffer), art dealer Ratchett (Johnny Depp) accompanied by his secretary, Hector MacQueen (Josh Gad), among others. As the train comes to a halt due to the buildup of snow, Detective Poirot finds himself in the middle of a murder investigation when one of the passengers is stabbed to death. There are no witnesses, everyone is a suspect, and clues are abundant. But while the passengers are stranded in the middle of nowhere, will the killer get away?

Murder on the Orient Express certainly seems like the kind of movie that will make you channel the detective within yourself. As you get entrapped in the story, chances are you might have the answers before the story reveals them. With such a big cast of some of the most prolific actors in Hollywood, it will also be hard to focus on the suspense while they charm you with their performances. Yet, this is exactly the kind of Hollywood suspense thriller we have been waiting for all year and we can’t wait to watch it soon.
