While Avengers: Endgame brought a close to the storyline that began years ago, there are still stories left to be told. Black Widow’s death in the film was tragic but it wasn’t the last time that Scarlett Johansson would be playing the role of Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow. Marvel soon announced that Black Widow would be getting her own solo film and fans wouldn’t have to wait long for it either as it would be releasing in May 2020, kicking off the Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Black Widow is a prequel set primarily in the years between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, but it also reveals more about Natasha, her past, and where she comes from. The recently-released teaser trailer shows us what we can expect from the film and, from the looks of it, it’s going to be a high-intensity thriller with lots of action.

The teaser trailer also introduces new characters that have never appeared in the movies before. The Stranger Things star David Harbour is shown playing the role of Alexei Shostakov and putting on a costume that’s quite similar to another superhero. This is because he’s also Red Guardian, the Soviet version of Captain America. Another major character introduced is Yelena Belova who is played by Midsommar actress Florence Pugh. She’s referred to as Natasha’s sister in the trailer and she seems equally adept at fighting as Black Widow. As Yelena becomes Black Widow in the comics, this film might be setting her up to take Natasha’s place with the rest of the superheroes. Rachel Weisz‘s character Melina Vostokoff also briefly appears in the teaser trailer. Melina, like Natasha, has also been trained in the Red Room, a secret Soviet program that turns women into deadly spies and assassins. Another name for the Red Room is the Black Widow program, which is where Natasha Romanoff gets her name.

While there haven’t been a lot of specific details revealed yet, it has also been confirmed that this film will finally tell us more about Budapest where something big happened involving Black Widow and Hawkeye. The film’s main villain is also not confirmed but since we see a glimpse of Taskmaster in a black costume in the teaser trailer and there are no other contenders so far, it just might be him. In the comics, he is a mercenary who has the ability to mimic other people’s actions and quickly learn anything from forms of martial arts to using physical weapons. There have also been rumors that Robert Downey Jr. will be returning as Tony Stark for a brief cameo in the film, which would be great to see as the fans thought that Endgame was his last appearance as Iron Man.
