Marvel Cinematic Universe has become massive with Endgame becoming the highest-grossing film of all time. It’s even expanding to TV shows with Disney+ and there have already been movies announced for the next few years. However, the upcoming movies and shows don’t all feature the iconic characters and some also won’t be appearing again in the MCU. But there’s some good news – your favorite Marvel actors have many more projects lined up. So if you need a fix of your favorite Avengers outside the Marvel movies, here’s where you can see them next:
We’ve bid farewell to Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, but he’ll be reprising another one of his famous roles as Sherlock Holmes in the third film of the series in 2021. Jude Law, who’s also made his entrance into the MCU with Captain Marvel, will also be back as Watson. But before that, RDJ is set to appear as a vet who can talk to animals in The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle in 2020. MCU Spider-Man Tom Holland, one of the other beloved Marvel actors, will also be voicing one of the characters in this film.
Captain America may have put down his shield, but Chris Evans has many interesting projects lined up. He recently appeared in the Netflix film Red Sea Diving Resort and his next theatrical release will be a murder mystery titled Knives Out. The film seems to be a classic whodunnit with a star-studded cast and is written and directed by The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson. Knives Out will be out in November this year. Evans is also involved in a limited TV series called Defending Jacob and Jekyll, a film about the infamous doctor’s descendant, but these two projects don’t have a date yet.
The Black Panther actor already has a new release lined up this year. While a Black Panther sequel has been announced, it was not given a date so it might be some time before you see him as T’Challa on the big screen. However, you can watch him in another action-packed film titled 21 Bridges, which has been produced by the Russo brothers. In the film, Boseman plays a disgraced NYPD detective who gets a shot at redemption by hunting down someone who has killed a cop. For this, he closes down the 21 bridges that have access to the city. The actor has also been cast in the film adaptation of the play Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, which is scheduled for next year.
Before you see Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange again in the 2021 film, you can see him in two other films. One of those is a gritty World War I film titled 1917, which is directed by the Skyfall director Sam Mendes, and a film about a Cold War spy titled Ironbark. He’ll also be seen as Thomas Edison in The Current War, a drama about the rivalry between Tesla and Edison. The movie was filmed a few years ago but was delayed in its release and will finally be arriving in theaters this year The film also stars Tom Holland. Next year, he’ll be seen in the drama The Power of the Dog about two brothers who own a ranch in Montana.
While she’s slated to return as Black Widow in the 2020 film, Scarlett Johansson has two more upcoming films scheduled to release this year. She stars in Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi‘s 2019 film Jojo Rabbit, a comedy about a boy whose imaginary friend is Hitler. She also has a lead role in Noah Baumbach‘s Marriage Story, a Netflix film about the divorce between a stage director and an actress.
He’ll be back in the MCU with the fourth Thor film but Chris Hemsworth will be seen in two other films this year. He has a role in the R-rated comedy Jay and Silent Bob Reboot and he also stars in the action-drama Dhaka. With a script written by Joe Russo, Dhaka is a Netflix film about an Indian businessman who hires a mercenary to find his kidnapped son with Hemsworth playing the mercenary, Tyler Rake.
Hawkeye fans will see Jeremey Renner return as the superhero in 2021 with the Disney+ series. He doesn’t have anything scheduled for release in the next year either and currently, he seems to be focused on his music. He recently released a few songs and has an album on the way. However, in 2021, he will also be appearing in another film titled Spawn. This will be an R-rated supernatural horror film directed by Venom director Todd McFarlane and also stars Jamie Foxx.
The youngest Avenger just might have the busiest time of all, with multiple non-MCU films. He is voicing a character in the animated comedy Spies in Disguise alongside Will Smith, which releases this year. Next year, he has six films scheduled to be released including Doctor Dolittle. He’s voicing one of the characters in the next Pixar film Onward, along with Star-Lord Chris Pratt. He’ll also appear in two adaptations – Uncharted and Chaos Walking. The former is a book series and a video game while the latter is an acclaimed book trilogy. He also stars in the thriller The Devil All the Time, which follows a group of characters from the end of WWII to the 1960s and Cherry, a drama about an Army medic suffering from PTSD, directed by the Russo brothers.
