The Best Moments From The Mummy Franchise

This June, the Egyptian Mummy is coming back to haunt us while fascinating some others who love a blend of history, mythology and horror all served together on a platter. The ladies have one more reason to be delighted as Tom Cruise will be the chosen one this time. The Mummy franchise films that began in 1932 never fail to entertain and scare us with the typical Mummy monsters, flesh-eating scarab beetles, sand and water monsters and horrific deaths. As we wait for yet another journey into the mystical land of the Pharaohs, Pyramids, and Mummies, let’s look at some of the best moments of the franchise till date.

1.    The Mummy (1932)

This is the original Mummy story which starred Boris Karloff, the Amrish Puri of the West, as Imhotep. Boris Karloff, with his intense looks and scary eyes, was successful in creating dread in the minds of the audience. Most scenes that focused on Imhotep’s facial starkness deserve a mention here. Also, who can forget the spooky music in the background?

2.    The Mummy (1999)

This one had a lot of oooh-sh*t moments that were scary as hell and yet too fascinating to watch. Developed from the original 1932 Mummy flick, the one scene we found to be the scariest was when Imhotep is punished with the worst of all Egyptian curses, the Hom-Dai. Another scene was when Evy utters one of the spells from the Book of the Dead and wakes up Imhotep’s mummified body. Other memorable moments from the movie comprise the sand monster scene, the climax scene where Beni is surrounded by scarab beetles and the sucking away the life of one of the American treasure hunters. It starred Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz.

3.    The Mummy Returns (2001)

Though the novelty of the Mummy wore off in this version, it had its share of wonderful moments that delighted everyone. Apart from frightening sequences, like the one where the degenerated Mummy sucks away the life of three goons, what we loved was the combat between Evy and Anck-Su-Namun. The ladies just looked gorgeous in their fierce avatar.

4.    The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008)

This one had the advantage of developed and sophisticated technology which made the movie look very classy, appealing and more impactful. Our favorite moments from the movie are the resurrection of the Emperor’s mummy, the battle scene where the Emperor wakes up his army from the dead and the revelation of the Emperor’s tomb discovered by Alex and his professor.

Are you now excited for the upcoming Mummy sequel? Maybe another look at the trailer will do the magic.
