The Fast and Furious series is easily one of the biggest Hollywood franchises with seven sequels following The Fast and the Furious (2001). Over the course of these films, the series has built up a great superstar squad including Vin Diesel, the late Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, and more. Now, before the ninth installment hits cinema screens in 2020, two of the biggest members of the star cast are set to appear in their own spin-off. Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham will reprise their titular roles in Hobbs & Shaw, which is all set for an August 2019 release in India.
The Fast and Furious arch-rivals Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw first faced off against each other in Furious 7 (2015). Hobbs is a loyal agent of America’s Diplomatic Security while Shaw is a former British Special Forces assassin-turned-mercenary. They’ve established each other as sworn enemies but in Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw they’ll be forced to put their differences aside to face off against a new superhuman foe. Yes, you heard that right! This spin-off will feature Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham’s teaming up against a former MI6 agent and cyber-genetically enhanced terrorist named Brixton Lore, played by none other than Idris Elba, who aims to weaponize a deadly virus. The film will also feature The Crown’s Vanessa Kirby as a fearless rogue MI6 agent who just happens to be Shaw’s sister. Helen Mirren will reprise her role as Deckard’s mother Magdalene Shaw who we last saw in The Fate of the Furious (2017).
