One of Disney’s most beloved movies, The Lion King is a massive fan favorite of the entertainment powerhouse which has been churning out remakes of their classic animated films including Beauty and The Beast, Dumbo, and Aladdin. So, it’s only fitting that a live-action version of The Lion King would lead the rest of the promising line-up.

This 2019 remake already seems like an extremely promising one since director Jon Favreau, who gave us the visually realistic remake of The Jungle Book in 2016, is on board for the film. Looking at the recently released trailers of the film, it seems like the director will be delivering stunning photorealistic versions of all our favorite characters from the film, making the emotional and nostalgic Disney tale that much more magical.

What’s even more exciting is that, backing the exciting visuals, will be the voices of an epic line-up of voice actors from returning roles to Hollywood icons. So without further ado, let’s take a look at the all-star voice cast for The Lion King!

Donald Glover as Simba

Donald Glover has become the music sensation Childish Gambino after starting off as a writer on 30 Rock, creating the Atlanta TV series, and starring in Community. He’ll now be lending his voice to this lead Disney role.

Beyoncé as Nala

Yep, you heard that right. Superstar Beyoncé Carter-Knowles voices Simba’s best friend and love interest Nala.

Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen as Timon and Pumbaa

This wisecracking meerkat and warthog duo is quite possibly the most lovable part of The Lion King. They will be voiced by Billy on the Street’s Billy Eichner and comedy legend Seth Rogen.

JD McCray as Young Simba

Playing Simba as a young cub, we last saw 11-year-old JD McCray in Tyler Perry‘s sitcom sequel The Paynes from on The Oprah Winfrey Network.

Alfre Woodard as Sarabi

Ejiofor’s 12 Years a Slave co-star, Alfre Woodard also steps into the cast as Simba’s mother and Mufasa’s wife Sarabi.

John Oliver as Zazu

Playing King Mufasa’s talkative advisor and right-hand man Zazu, late-night host John Oliver seems like the perfect fit for the role.

Florence Kasumba, Eric André, and Keegan-Michael Key as Scar’s Three Hyenas

Filling in the shoes of Whoopi Goldberg as one of Scar’s three hyena henchmen, Florence Kasumba will play Shenzi. The other two, named Banzai and Ed in the original film, will now be called Kamari and Azizi and voiced by comedians Eric André and Keegan-Michael Key.
