Naam Shabana, which unfolds the backstory of Shabana from the much loved action spy thriller, Baby, is set to release on March 31st, 2017.
Director: Shivam Nair
Producers: Neeraj Pandey, Shital Bhatia, Friday Filmworks, Cape of Good Films
Editor: Praveen Kathikuloth
Music: Rochak Kohli & Meet Bros.
Background & Story:
The film showcases Shabana's (Taapsee Pannu) journey of becoming an undercover agent. It also highlights her intense training in martial arts and action stunts. According to some reports, Naam Shabana is based on a real woman, who is an undercover agent. The film's team, however, has refrained from using the real life identity of the ex-spy.
Neeraj Pandey, who is a writer on the film, took guidance from an ex-intelligence officer. The consultant has provided him with the details of a spy's life in addition to sharing intricate details of their operations, to add depth and realism to Taapsee Pannu’s role. To ensure that the identity of the ex-undercover agent is under wraps, the Naam Shabana team has taken special precautions.
Akshay Kumar, who is one of the producers, said in an interview that all the films made before have only been about spies on missions. Therefore, he is very excited to produce a film about making of a spy.
Fun fact: Akshay trained Taapsee for the film.
Besides Taapsee Pannu, the film also stars Prithviraj (who plays a villain in the movie), Anupam Kher (who reprises his role as the doom-and-gloom Shukla) and Manoj Bajpayee (who is playing a senior intelligence officer).
The theatrical trailer of the film was released a few days ago. It has not only garnered praise from tinsel town, but has also left the audience curious. If you still haven't seen it yet, here you go:
