Review: Stories such as Alice in Wonderland, Hansel and Gretel and many more literally shaped our childhood. When a story from our childhood days is made into a movie, the one thing that will cross pretty much all our minds is, "– oh god, I hope the movie doesn’t stab my childhood.

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters is a movie that takes off where the book stops. It starts off with a certain twist in the fairy tale and carries on from there. Hansel and Gretel are renowned witch hunters. Witch hunters who, unlike other human beings, are not affected by witchcraft and magic. The mayor of a town named Augsburg hires Hansel and Gretel after a lot of children were kidnapped by witches. The story begins to take interesting turns and twists (nothing out of the ordinary though) and the siblings encounter a powerful form of evil that holds a secret to their past.

If I had to describe the movie in one word, that word would be fun. Not once throughout the movie will the audience get bored. There are no slow patches. Right from the word go, it’ll will have you gripped and enthralled. For a lot of people who actually believe that Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters would be a movie for kids will sadly be mistaken once they watch this. In my opinion calling them "Witch Hunters" would be an understatement. Ugly witches, blood and a whole lot of violence defined this movie. There are no dull moments and its wham-wham-bam-bam all the way.

Jeremy Renner (who played Hansel) did really well. He stood up to the role perfectly. Famke Janssen (who played Muriel) also acted supremely and played the extravagant yet ugly witch. Gemma Arterton (who played Gretel) stood out. Her acting, body language and the entire tone of acting was perfect for the role. Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters is one movie that took impeccable advantage of 3D. Stunning visuals, amazing cinematography and a pretty decent script kept the movie robust and strong.

There were some parts in the movie that were not needed. Considering the whole setup was medieval, there was use of sophisticated weapons and that is a little hard to gulp. Also, Hansel had diabetes and was taking insulin shots from a device that looked like a cross between a modern-day injection and a weapon from middle-earth.

The music score fit well with the movie. The direction and overall feel is good, with a few glitches here and there. And yes, it did not stab my childhood.

Verdict: Enthralling, fun and action-packed. Definitely a one-time watch.
