10 Movies That Were Worth the Wait

Bollywood has left to stone unturned in exploring different genres in cinema. While we love the commercial masala films starring our favorite Bollywood celebs, we also like to watch realistic cinema time to time. But while the audience is more than ready to welcome these movies, they generally get stuck in some sort of trouble, be it getting screens, distributors or a good producer. And if the production was all good, the films have to wait for a censor certificate. Where the world is evolving, the Censor Board is trying to keep the innocent Indian minds from getting corrupted and in that process, they have ended up delaying a lot of movies.

Movies are made for a purpose. It is an art and it should be appreciated. In the past decade, we heard about a lot of tussles Bollywood movies faced before releasing. Here we have listed 10 movies that were worth the wait even after the delay.

Lipstick Under My Burkha (2017)

This is one of the recent most movies that were denied a certificate from the censor board. But the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT) gave the film a go with an A certificate and the film garnered applauds from critics all over the country.

Jagga Jasoos (2017)

After three pushed release dates, Jagga Jasoos finally released in July 2017. The film was being shot from the last three years, mainly because of unavailability of the actors. Anurag Basu never commented on what exactly caused the delay but he was happy that the much awaited musical has finally released and received love from the audience.

Raees (2016)

Raees starring Shah Rukh Khan was set to release on Eid, 6th July 2016 but it was moved to January 2017 to avoid a clash with Salman Khan's Sultan. It was the again moved from 26th January to 25th January 2017 and was a commercial hit.

Aligarh (2016)

After the European premiere at the London Film Festival and the Indian premiere at MAMI, the film received a standing ovation and unanimous critical acclaim, it was obvious for viewers to eagerly wait the release of the film. However, as per the filmmaker's statement, half of the CBFC members wanted to ban the movie. The movie released worldwide on 29th Feb 2016 and gained much appreciation from the critics and the audience.

Udta Punjab (2016)

Another Anurag Kashyap movie that the CBFC put a stay on. But on 13th June 2016, the Bombay High Court struck down the stay barring one cut in the screenplay and the movie was released on 17th June 2016.

Angry Indian Goddesses (2015)

Pan Nalin's and India's first female buddy film was clashing with Salman Khan's Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo and hence the director decided to delay the release. The film was finally released on November 27th 2015.

Rangrasiya (2014)

Rangrasiya is a beautiful film. It is based on the life of the Indian painter Raja Ravi Varma and has been pictured beautifully. The film was out for release in 2008 but was released in 2014 because of censor issues regarding a few "bold" scenes.

Ugly (2014)

The Anurag Kashyap's neo-noir thriller was supposed to release in 2013. However, the censor board required the filmmakers to put a "smoking is injurious to health" sign in every scene that had the characters smoking. Kashyap fought this regulation for a year and finally released the movie with the sign in December 2014, still taking a stance against the rule.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011)

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara was one of the biggest hits of 2011. The film was initially set to be released on 24th May but got postponed to June and then further to July. After the release, the film received highly positive reviews and is a part of the syllabus for the marketing students of Spain.

Black Friday (2007)

Another Anurag Kashyap's movie in the list is the very controversial Black Friday. The film's release was kept on hold till the '93 Bombay blast case verdict was passed. It released after three years of stay, on 9th February 2007.
