While there are some characters that are portrayed with utmost perfection by some actors, we always end up wondering what the character would be if someone else played it. How would Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge be if Saif Ali Khan played Raj?
Bollywood has given us so many memorable characters that we love and admire but would they be as memorable if they were played by the first choices?
1. Hrithik and Abhishek as Akash and Sid in Dil Chahta Hai
Recently, Farhan Akhtar revealed the first choices for the characters in Dil Chahta Hai.
“I wanted Akshaye Khanna to play Akash, Hrithik Roshan for Sameer and Abhishek Bachchan for Siddharth (Sid). But films are generally made with a cast which was not on your wish list,”
We don’t know how we feel about it.
2. Hrithik Roshan as Mohan Bhargava in Swades
According to reports, Hrithik rejected the role after reading the script. It landed straight on Shah Rukh Khan’s lap and we’re so glad it did.
3. Shah Rukh Khan as Ajay Rathod in Rang De Basanti
I can only imagine two mega stars in one frame. Rakyesh Om Prakash Mehra revealed:
“I did give Shah Rukh Khan the script of Rang De Basanti and he was supposed to do the role that eventually went to R Madhavan. He loved the script and he would tell me time and again that ‘Rang De Basanti is the only script that I keep on my bedside and make a point to read it at regular interval.’ Sadly, it didn’t materialize but I thought he was a great choice for that role. I am not saying, Madhavan didn’t do justice as every actor brings his own thing to the table. His acting talent and good points made it look convincing.”
4. Ranveer Singh as Johnny Balraj in Bombay Velvet
Would the character go to another level altogether? Anurag spoke about the role and how it went rounds before it reached Ranbir.
“My first choice when I wrote the film in 2006 was Saif Ali Khan. From there it went to Aamir and Hrithik. This film has gone around before landing with Ranbir. We also tried to make it with Ranveer Singh but we could raise only Rs 40 to 50 crore,”
5. Twinkle Khanna as Tina in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai
On Koffee With Karan, Karan Johar revealed how heartbroken he was when Twinkle Khanna refused to play Tina in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. He even named the character Tina which is Twinkle’s pet name.
6. Kareena Kapoor Khan and Salman Khan as Mastani and Bajirao in Bajirao Mastani
First, it was supposed to star Aishwarya and Salman then it was supposed to star Kareena and Salman. The latter had also shot for a poster and is still kept at Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s office.
7. Kangana Ranaut as Reshma in The Dirty Picture
In an interview, Kangana revealed that she was offered Vidya Balan’s character in the movie.
“Well, after Fashion but I could just see many similarities between a small-town girl wanting to make it big and then falls prey to that whole glamor and that facade red I just felt I’ll be trapped in this whole thing doing the same thing again and I was bored of seeing myself being this supermodel very attractive person and then crying and saw being my way to my deathbed I just I just fell and honestly if I would have done the film I’m sure it would not have been such a big success.”
8. Sushant Singh Rajput as Noor in Fitoor
In an interview, Sushant revealed how he lost on 12 films in a year and one of them was Fitoor.
” I sat for 90 days when I could have finished the film and then I chose to step out and then it didn’t happen. So, it was a series of unfortunate events, but what can I do? I always stick by my words. It’s again back to atoms, spaces and opinions.”
9. Sidharth Malhotra as Bhavesh Joshi
Vikramaditya Motwane was supposed to make it in 2015 but the story was all over the place and later when the story seemed fine, Sidharth quit and the role went to Harshvardhan Kapoor.
“It was written when the last government was in power and corruption was rampant. There was a lot that was wrong with the city…the country… and this was affecting everyone.”
10. Ranbir and Kareena as Kabir and Ayesha in Dil Dhadakne Do
We can’t imagine anyone else as Kabir and Ayesha! Kareena Kapoor Khan couldn’t be on a cruise for 90 days and that is what the schedule demanded. Since Kareena backed out, so did Ranbir.
“Zoya’s film required me to give 90 days. I can’t be away on some cruise from home and my family for three months for an outdoor shoot. I do not wish to work that way anymore.”
All’s well that ends well, we guess?
