“Paisa kis jagah pohonchaana hai, yeh tumhe dusre call ke baad pata chalega!”
Blackmail was Bollywood’s love and the audience, too, loved it. There was so much of blackmail happening during the 1980’s that we all had no escape from it. As the audience, there was this thrill to know what is happening and who the blackmailer is.
So, our beloved Bollywood made it a formula and it was a hit one because in the 1980’s all we saw was characters getting blackmailed one movie after another.
1. Gumrah (1963)
This story was about a woman who gets married to her sister’s husband because her sister passes away and tells her to take care of the kids. But she was in love with another guy before the sister dies. Plot twist here is that Shashikala claims to be her ex’s wife and blackmails her. Eventually, she is forced to choose between Rajendra and Ashok.
Also, this was remade as ‘Bewafaa’ starring Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Anil Kapoor in 2005.
2. Blackmail (1973)
Blackmail that starred Rakhhee and Dharmendra. Shatrughan Sinha is the ex you never wish you had. Blackmail that released in 1973 had quite a different premise, Sinha played on Rakhhee’s insecurity and steals her current fiance’s secret formulae that could earn him millions.
3. Khel Khel Mein (1975)
This movie that starred Rishi Kapoor, Rakesh Roshan, and Neetu Kapoor as college kids was a blackmail drama with a deadly twist.

8. Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega (2001)
This movie was about a man and his two friends kidnap the man’s wife only because he doesn’t have money. How convenient, isn’t it?

10. Talaash (2012)
Our main man, Nawazuddin Siddiqui was seen extracting money in exchange for silence. This movie was one of the better psychological dramas to come from Bollywood.
11. Ugly (2013)
This Anurag Kashyap movie was a story about a 10-year-old girl being kidnapped. If you haven’t seen it yet, we suggest you should.
