5 Movie roles that were meant for other Actors

There’s a saying in the film industry that ‘Actors turn down more roles than they accept’. For some, it turns out to be the right decision, but the few others are left kicking themselves after the films turn out to be a blockbuster. Imagining a Dirty Picture without Vidya Balan, Munna Bhai without Sanjay Dutt and Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge without SRK (Oh the horrors!) is difficult, but surprisingly they were not the first choice for the films. While not receiving a script with coffee stains on it is a tell tale sign of a successful movie career, it’s always good to give the script a second read before passing it on. Here’s a list of 5 actors who were not the director’s first choice for the movie:

1) Ranbir Kapoor in Bombay Velvet

Before the release of the film, Anurag Kashyap himself went on to say that, when he wrote the script for the movie in 2006 he had Saif Ali Khan in mind. Eventually, the film went to Aamir Khan and Hrithik Roshan, before Ranbir Kapoor bagged the script.
2) Neeraj Kabir in Detective Byomkesh Bakshy

According to the news, Aamir Khan was the original choice for the film. Not as the protagonist, but as the antagonist. However, he was offered a negative role in Dhoom 3 at the same time which he went ahead with.
3) Deepika Padukone in Piku

Deepika Padukone is receiving rave reviews for her performance in Piku. However, it is a lesser known fact that Parineeti Chopra was offered the role well before Deepika. However, she had to pass it on since she had already signed up for Dawaat-E-Ishq. What a bummer!

4) Dhanush in Shamitabh

While Dhanush delivered a winning performance in Shamitabh, the role was originally meant for Shah Rukh Khan. Although, romancing like Shah Rukh Khan seems to be his forte too.
5) Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra in Dil Dhadakne Do

Ranveer Singh and Ranbir Kapoor have too much in common, both in reel and real life. But, according to reports, the role of the younger Mehra kid, played by Ranveer, was initially offered to Ranbir Kapoor who turned it down citing date issues. Kareena Kapoor was also supposed to play Priyanka Chopra‘s role in the film. But when Ranbir walked out of the project, she followed suit. With a starry cast and the anticipation building around the film, we can only hope that the sister-brother duo made the right choice.
