Bollywood is famous for its romantic movies, where lovers go out of their way and do things that are extremely cheesy. The one element that is extremely popular in this genre is a love triangle. Although, not every time do our presumptions turn out to be true and the love triangle actually is some other geometrical figure or sometimes, the plot takes a killer twist. While we love our overly-romantic movies, the twists get our attention more, as they are pretty rare and the stories, refreshing!
Here we have six such movies that trapped us into thinking they're about love triangles while they actually weren't.
Remember the time when people thought that Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham playing a gay couple was only an afwah? There was a hot Priyanka Chopra in a bikini and an even hotter John Abraham in yellow swimwear. But that couldn't work out because the usurper Bobby Deol wooed Priyanka away with his sexy chest hair. It was not a love triangle but a hot volcano.
If anyone considers this movie a love triangle, let me explain this to you. Tahir (Shah Rukh Khan) loves Saba (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan), Saba loves Ayan (Ranbir Kapoor), Ayan loves Alizeh (Anushka Sharma), Alizeh loves Ali (Fawad Khan), and Ali loves his career. So technically, it is a zig-zag line, not a triangle or any kind of two-dimensional figure.
This movie was so hyped with its rumors that it fulfilled all the criteria of a love triangle. But only the release clarified that it wasn't one. The Maharaja Rawal Ratan Singh (Shahid Kapoor) and Rani Padmavati (Deepika Padukone) were in love, while Khilji (Ranveer Singh) was just lusting after her. He did not even get the chance to see her! So the third angle was far away from making it a triangle.
This was another movie that hinted at a triangle but surprisingly turned out to be a sweet love story. Bitti (Kriti Sanon) was in love with Chirag (Ayushmann Khurrana), while Pritam (Rajkummar Rao) fell for Bitti's friend. It was just the plot that required a forced affair between Bitti & Pritam, only to make them devar-bhabhi in the end.
Why this, right? Well, while the movie revolved around Deepika and Ranbir, it also had three very important characters played by Kalki Koechlin, Kunaal Roy Kapur, and Aditya Roy Kapur (the guy who, self-admittedly, plays drunk in all movies). Initially, Aditi (Kalki Koechlin) loved Avi (Aditya Roy Kapur) but she got over him before falling in love with Taran (Kunaal Roy Kapur), while Avi had no idea about Aditi's love angle. It might have looked like a triangle for a while, but it wasn't one.
Kapoor and Sons was a really cool movie with a twist that makes many of us like the movie even more. This one also had a really good-looking trio with a high potential of becoming a love triangle, however, one of them turned out to be gay and hence, our presumptions broke. For good!
There's another upcoming movie that might fit this criterion – Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety. Even if it doesn't, it surely will entertain us with a totally new twist.
Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety has just released and we think it has surpassed the level of Pyaar Ka Punchnama series.
