Item numbers have been a huge part of Bollywood- whether to draw a few more people into the theatres, or just to create a pee break for the audience. On most occasions, item numbers are only as popular as the films they are a part of.
However, some item numbers have broken the pattern and have managed to become more popular than the films they were a part of. Let’s look at a few such item numbers-
This song was a part of the movie Dum, starring Vivek Oberoi and Dia Mirza. The cop drama was a flop upon release- however, the item number featuring Yana Gupta is still played during dance competitions and weddings.
Zameen was a flop at the box office, despite being one of the better films of 2003. But the item number Dilli Ki Sardi, featuring Amrita Arora, caught on.
This song is played everywhere, to this day. Few item numbers have this kind of longevity. It was in the film Sirf Tum- and we’ll forgive you, if you don’t remember this.
Few films have received as much widespread criticism as Tees Maar Khan. But Katrina Kaif dancing on My Name Is Sheela will never get old.
Shakti was an unfortunate rehash of the Hollywood flick, Not Without My Daughter, starring Sanjay Kapoor and Karisma Kapoor. However, it was the song Ishq Kameena, featuring Shahrukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai, that got people talking.
