7 Sleeper hits that packed a powerful punch

We are in the day and age of cinema where often the budget of a movie is more than the GDP of a small country. Even so, there are some movies that do well on shoe-string budgets. A great script, fabulous acting, good dialogues and smart cinema may be some of the ingredients used to create these cooked-to-perfection movies. While there are many who spend tons of crores on the production of films, these small budget movies work magic at the box office with their simplistic story line and sensible casting. Here’s a list of Bollywood movies on baby budgets that packed a punch.  

1. Peepli Live (2010)
This dark satire gave us a peep into the plight of India’s labor class. The movie not only highlighted the issues, but did an extraordinary job by arousing the conscience of the Indian audience. We saw peerless performances by Omkar Das ManikpuriRaghubir YadavNawazuddin Siddiqui and Naseeruddin Shah in the movie. 
2. Paan Singh Tomar (2010)
Tigmanshu Dhulia and Irrfan Khan made us fall in love with the the character of Pan Singh Tomar, the Indian soldier and rebel. The amazing acting and direction, got this film a whopping collection of 38 crores at the box office.   
3. Tere Bin Laden (2010)
A complete laugh riot, this film introduced us to Ali Zafar‘s acting skills. Director Abhishek Sharma had us in splits with the great humour and out of box story. 
4. Pyaar Ka Punchnama (2011)
Luv Ranjan made this smart, eccentric, ‘hatke’ film that worked its magic. Not only did we love the dialogues, but the movie worked like a reality check for many people 😛  
The movie inspired by the high-profile case of model Jessica Lal and convict Manu Sharma, got the entire nation hooked. The movie had amazing performances by the leading ladies, Rani Mukherjee and Vidya Balan.
6. Vicky Donor (2012)
Shoojit Sircar did a fabulous job with this movie. It generated 65 crores with an input of just 5 crores. Audience loved the story of the film and the acting of Ayushmann KhurranaYami Gautam and Annu Kapoor.  
7. The Lunchbox (2013)
Debut director Ritesh Batra‘s The Lunchbox was liked by one and all. The unique story-line and strong acting by Irrfan KhanNimrat Kaur andNawazuddin Siddiqui, made this film a must watch.
