It’s a regular phenomenon in Bollywood when an individual becomes a star overnight. There are some of them who maintain that status for a long time and then there are some who vanish as fast as they first appeared in front of us.
Today, we’re focusing on the actors who were once sensational but then were nowhere to be seen.
1. Rajiv Kapoor
Rajiv Kapoor is related to Bollywood’s famous “Kapoor” family. He is the son of legendary actor and director Raj Kapoor. Rajiv Kapoor started his film career with Ram Teri Ganga Maili. The film was a huge hit at the box office. He appeared in many films after this film, but none succeeded like his first film. Rajiv Kapoor slowly went into obscurity.
2. Kumar Gaurav
Kumar Gaurav is the son of huge star Rajendra Kumar. Kumar Gaurav was launched with the film Love Story. The Film got the “blockbuster” status, making Kumar Gaurav a ‘Star’ overnight. However, none of his films were this successful again and he slowly disappeared from the industry. Today, Kumar Gaurav (now known as Manoj Tuli) is a successful businessman.
3. Rahul Roy
Rahul Roy’s film journey started with Aashiqui. Aashiqui is a 1990 hindi musical romance film directed by Mahesh Bhatt starring Rahul Roy. Upon release, it received positive reviews and emerged as an all-time blockbuster. The soundtrack album has been rated the fourth best ever by Planet Bollywood on their “100 Greatest Bollywood Soundtracks”. After this film, Rahul became an overnight sensation however found it difficult to replicate his success in future films and thus, vanished into obscurity. He is now a member of the BJP.
Bhagyashree’s Maine Pyar Kiya became such a huge hit, it changed the trend of Hindi films at the time. Both Salman Khan and Bhagyashree became the stars everyone wanted to see in their families. While Salman Khan is still a star, Bhagyashree gave acting a pass soon after. She’s a happy homemaker who values the importance of nutritional food on social media.
#5 Ronit Roy
Ronit Roy’s first film, Jaan Tere Naam was also a big Box Office hit. The film had made a lot of money that not a lot of people expected. As a result, Ronit Roy had a lot of movies after this but since the string of flops came his way, his initial years weren’t very popular. Ronit’s second innings at acting recognition began after the release of 2010’s iconic film Udaan.
Like Aashiqui, Aashiqui 2 also proved to be a box office success, making Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur overnight stars. However just like Rahul Roy, Aditya Roy Kapur has not been able to hit the right note with the audience ever since. Aditya was last seen in 2018’s Welcome To New York.
Shamita Shetty’s first Mohabbatein was the biggest hit of that year. However, call it fate or lack of talent, Shamita was unable to reach the same level of popularity afterwards. It’s been years since we saw Shamita Shetty in a film. She was last seen in the web series “Yo Ke Hua Bro”.
Mahima Chaudhary was fortunate enough to get her first movie “Pardes” with Shah Rukh Khan. After this film, thought Mahima became a popular face in Hindi films, but she struggled affect the audiences quite like her first film Pardes did. Today, she’s a retired actor.
Well, the legacy of Bollywood is based on a string of actors who unfortunately couldn’t replicate their initial success. Doesn’t make their contribution to cinema any less valuable.
