Usually, when a Bollywood film is based around a real person, or a real story, we get to know about it. However, a few times, Bollywood makes a film on a lesser known incident. Here are 8 such films, that you might not know were based on real incidents.
Special 26 was a fictional take on the 1987 Opera House heist. However, all the fake CBI raids preceding it, were fictional, at least officially.

Ramgopal Varma’s Not A Love Story was based on the gruesome murder of Neeraj Grover, where Kannada actress Maria Susairaj and her fiance Emile Jerome Mathew were convicted.
#3 Hey Ram
We all know that Nathuram Godse killed Mahatma Gandhi. But the character of Saket Ram was loosely based on Godse, as the film tried to unravel what went inside Godse’s mind.
Multiple horror stories from the 2002 Gujarat riots formed the crux of Firaaq.
Even though Dev D was based on the classic novel Devdas, it had instances from the real world. Kalki’s leaked MMS was a harb back to the infamous 2004 Delhi Public School MMS. Also, later, Dev (Abhay Deol) has an accident while driving his BMW. This had shades of the Sanjeev Nanda hit and run case.
This magnum opus was based on the life of Khalid Mohammed’s mother, who was an aspiring actress who married the Maharaja of Fatehpur.
#7 Ek Doctor Ki Maut
The movie revolves around the life of Dr. Dipankar Roy (played by Pankaj Kapur), a junior doctor who discovers a vaccine for leprosy. Ek Doctor Ki Maut is loosely based on the life of Dr. Subhash Mukhopadhyay, who formulated the process of IVF.
This multilingual film was based on the life of Paritala Ravindra, an Andhra based politician who was murdered in 2005.
