There are quite a few actresses who have as many accolades as she has. She is just 25 and has 12 lead roles in her bag. An actor who has performed in most of the genres and performed spectacularly in them. People call her bubbly and cute yet her work show’s her maturity, she is none other than Alia Bhatt.
Most of the times, people end up speculating on her personal life, who is she dating and the infamous Koffee with Karan episode (it is still talked about), not many people end up noticing how smart she is in her work.
Whether it’s the urbane glamorous Shanaya from Student of the Year to untamed ferocious Mary from Udta Punjab, her characters are quite varied. If you see her roles, you might notice that most of the characters she enacts have a ‘grey’ personality.
Shanaya from Student Of The Year, Vaidehi from Badrinath Ki Dhulania aren’t that likable at the start. But as the movie proceeds, you realize their soft side, their vulnerability, and that very thing has been portrayed so beautifully.
She has been included in Forbes India’s Celebrity 100 list, Forbes Asia 30 Under 30 and it takes more than just simple acting. The young actress realizes the layers and the depth a certain character has and likes to go with the flow of the said character.
If you are thinking that it might be quite simple then sorry to burst your bubble, it’s not. Imagine that you are playing a certain dark role in one of the movie and in another, the character is quite energetic and lovely. To get in the headspace of one role is difficult as it is but with two movies together, it’s just tough.
In one of the conversation, Alia mentions that she gets many breakdowns while shooting for the movie. She gets nightmares before shooting a big scene in a movie.
In one such conversations with film journalists Anupama Chopra and Rajeev Masand she mentions that when she had just started shooting for Badrinath Ki Dhulania, she was also, at the time, prepping for one major breakdown scene in Dear Zindagi. The scene had 3 and a half page dialogue, it was her first shoot with Shah Rukh Khan which was making her nervous.
While she has hit films in her kitty, she realizes that not all good films will work. During the filming of Shaandar, she had a feeling that it might not work well. In fact, she even told this to the director!
The Highway actress understands the importance of content. During a conversation on a podcast ‘Take 2 with Anupama and Rajeev‘, she was compared to Jennifer Lawrence and when asked her about the opportunities in Hollywood, she said, “The only difference is what I wish, I think it’s changing here and I feel like we are moving in a space where content is really becoming the focus of all our attention.”
“At least out there, there is a lot of respect and love given to writers and just writing which we are still waking up to over here so that’s the only thing I would want maybe that just more respect for the writers so they feel motivated because eventually, it’s all in the writing.”
Kudos to her!
