All You Need to Know About Talvar

In 2008, a double murder shook the nation. The murders of a 14-year old girl and her male domestic help. The parents were accused and put on trial. The curious case caught our nation’s fancy and the innocent face of a teenage girl was splattered across tabloids and television screens. Director Meghna Gulzar is feeding our morbid curiosity once again with the murder mystery thriller, Talvar. Releasing this Friday, the movie stars Irrfan Khan, Konkona Sen Sharma, Neeraj Kabi, Sohum Shah and Tabu. But before you go ahead and book your tickets for this thriller, you should know certain things about the case and the film. 

Facts About the Aarushi Murder Case
– At first when Aarushi Talwar was found murdered, the domestic help Hemraj was thought to have murdered her since he was missing. 
– His body was found the next day on the house terrace. And soon, Aarushi’s parents, Rajesh Talwar and Nupur Talwar, became suspects. 
– Two probable theories emerged: one, Aarushi and Hemraj were having an affair and this was an honour killing. Two, Hemraj was blackmailing Rajesh about his alleged extramarital affair, and Aarushi had confronted her father about the same.
– The theories didn’t hold up according to Arun Kumar (& his CBI team) and her parents were exonerated based on the results of the narco tests. The case was transferred to a new CBI team and the story took another turn. 
Characters: The movie & the reality
The main characters in the case and the film are Shruti Tandon (based on Aarushi Talwar) played by Ayesha Parveen, Ramesh Tandon (based on Rajesh Talwar) played by Neeraj Kabi, Nutan Tandon (based on Nupur Talwar) played by Konkona Sen Sharma. Ashwin Kumar, investigating officer, is played by Irrfan Khan, and there’s a cameo appearance by Tabu who plays Irrfan’s wife, Reema Kumar. 
Film’s Critical Success
The movie has already received an overwhelming response at the 40th Toronto International Film Festival where it premiered in September 2015. Talvar also received praise for its screenplay which has been written by Vishal Bhardwaj.
