The Bollywood actor who is known for never playing safe with his scripts, Ayushmann Khurrana is returning to the big screen with yet another out-of-the-box film. Following his appearance in the well-received socio-political drama Article 15, he is ready to let loose with a comedy of errors that stars a crackling ensemble titled Dream Girl.
Written as well as directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa, the film is set in the backdrop of Mathura and features Ayushmann as a small-town boy who has the unique talent of transforming his voice to sound like different women. The film’s trailer shows him taking on characters like Sita and Radha in plays while he also begins to use his voice on the telephone as a call girl. He calls this sultry alter-ego Pooja, who creates a fan-following of her own. From a Haryanvi boy to a local cop and even his girlfriend’s brother, everybody is smitten by Dream Girl Pooja and her mesmerizing voice. Glimpses of Ayushmann’s romantic relationship are also shown in the trailer. As the love-crazy men try to hunt him down, a series of unusual and entertaining situations unfold.
Apart from Ayushmann in the lead role, Dream Girl features Nushrat Bharucha as his love interest and also sees the actor reunited with his Vicky Donor co-star Annu Kapoor. The film also includes Vijay Raaz, Abhishek Banerjee, Manjot Singh, Nidhi Bisht, Rajesh Sharma, and Raj Bhansali in the cast.
Speaking of taking on a woman’s voice Ayushmann stated, “I had to deliver 25 percent of my dialogues in a woman’s voice. Since I come from a radio background, it’s easier for me to modulate my voice. I have spent years behind the mic, mimicking different people. Raaj had given me the references of a few men who prank people by talking like a woman. I studied those videos extensively.”
Dream Girl is produced by Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms. The much-anticipated Bollywood comedy is all set for a September 13 release this year. Click on “Interested” for more updates on the film.
