The 2017 Bollywood release Shubh Mangal Saavdhan was received with praise from audiences and critics for brilliantly dealing with the subject of erectile dysfunction. Starring versatile actor Ayushmann Khurrana and ace actress Bhumi Pednekar in the leads, the film came at a time when audiences were beginning to grow more receptive and open-minded towards off-beat or even taboo topics. We also saw mainstream Bollywood exploring homosexuality with films like Kapoor & Sons and Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga. So, it is only fitting that the 2017 film’s spin-off Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan would feature Ayushmann in a same-sex relationship.
The makers previously an animated teaser of the film introducing the cast in a game of Pyaar vs. Sanskaar. The game’s voiceover introduces us to the actors playing the Tripathi family as well as Jitendra Kumar as Aman Tripathi who keeps missing his turn because of his attraction to the new player Kartik Singh played by Ayushmann Khurrana. Check out the teaser introducing the film’s cast below.
Aman’s parents are played by Neena Gupta and Gajraj Rao, the duo who received rave reviews as Ayushmann’s parents in Badhaai Ho. Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan also stars Manurishi Chaddha, Sunita Rajwar, Maanvi Gagroo, Pankhuri Awasthy, and Neeraj Singh. Producing the film under Colour Yellow Productions along with Bhushan Kumar‘s T-series, Aanand L Rai stated, “Bhumi is a part of Shubh Mangal Saavdhan family, and we couldn’t imagine making Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan without her. She has a very special appearance in the narrative, and we are extremely happy to have her on board.” This confirms that the sequel will see Bhumi Pednekar and Ayushmann reunite for the fourth time after Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, and Bala. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh also shared the first look of the actress in the sequel on social media.
