Bollywood is filled with versatile actors who have pushed the envelope to step out of their comfort zone and deliver performances both as a hero and as a villain. Playing either a glorified hero or nasty villain demands the right roles along with some on-point acting and these B-town stars have managed to embrace both sides – heroes and villains – with brilliance.
Let’s take a look at some actors who played heroes and villains to perfection:
Shah Rukh Khan
SRK was crowned the King of romance after his lover boy performances in numerous movies including his ultimate hit Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. Shah Rukh then surprised everyone with his anti-hero character in Darr: A Violent Love Story, where he played a psychotic man who was obsessed with a girl he couldn’t have.
While Sanjay Dutt has played many roles as a villain, one movie in which he stands out is Agneepath. His acting coupled with his look made him the perfect antagonist. While you may hate Sanjay Dutt’s character in Agneepath, you also can’t help but love him in Munnabhai MBBS.
Kajol is known for her mainstream acting roles as a heroine which she has played to perfection. A role that surprised everyone was her character in Gupt: The Hidden Truth, where she took on a darker role. In this film, she plays the role of an obsessed lover who goes on a murder spree.
Akshay Kumar played the role of a villain who is cold and calculated in his film Ajnabee where he frames Bobby Deol’s character for murder. While Akshay’s brilliant acting enabled him to win many awards, we can’t forget the other side of Akshay Kumar as a hero which has brought us incredible films that include Airlift, Pad Man, Jolly LLB 2, and Namaste London. Now, all we have to do is look forward to Akshay’s upcoming blockbuster, Mission Mangal which is set to hit the big screen on Independence day.
Saif Ali Khan
Saif has played the role of a hero in various films over the years such as Hum Tum, Salaam Namaste, and Love Aaj Kal. In the 2006 film Omkara, Saif showed us his dark side with a brilliant performance. Saif is now gearing up for his upcoming film Laal Kaptaan which is slated to release on September 6. Priyanka’s role as Sonia Roy from Aitraaz put her on the map in B-town and enabled her to win many awards. While her ‘sexy’ character as a villain impressed many, she was equally impressive if not more, in her characters as a morally good heroine. Her films like Barfi, Mary Kom, and Fashion, showed the world that she was a versatile and seasoned actress. Her upcoming film The Sky Is Pink marks PeeCee’s Bollywood comeback. Releasing in October, we can’t wait to see Priyanka in action once again.
