Background & Story:
Untitled when announced in December 2015, PINK was only titled in May this year. The film marks the Bollywood debut of Bengali director, Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury. According to Chowdhury, the idea of making this film struck him five years ago. It was only after working on it for two-and-a-half years that he approached Mr. Bachchan, who liked it and agreed to come on board because the film revolves around an issue he felt strongly about.
Besides Amitabh Bachchan, the film also stars Taapsee Pannu, Andrea Tariang and Kirti Kulhari. Tapsee Pannu, already recognised for her work down South, was offered the role while she was working in Shoojit Sircar's other film- RunningShaadi.com.
Andrea Tariang, originally a musician from Shillong, was spotted by another Shillongite, producer Ronnie Lahiri. When approached for the role, she was hesitant because she didn't know any Hindi. However, as part of her prep for the film, she attended classes and managed to pull it off confidently.
Kirti Kulhari, known for her work in Bejoy Nambiar's Shaitan (2011), plays a middle class girl in PINK. Kirti said in an interview that working with Amitabh Bachchan was a huge honor.
