Kajol was last seen on the big screen in Velaiilla Pattadhari 2, which released in August 2017. The actress is back with what looks to be a fun, refreshing film – Helicopter Eela. She plays the character of a possessive mother who joins her son’s college to complete her education. Playing her kid is the twenty-year-old star, Riddhi Sen. He has worked in a few Hindi movies but is best known for the Bengali film, Samantaral. When the Helicopter Eela trailer was out, Kajol was praised for taking accepting a role of a mother to a young man as most actresses prefer not to show their real age on screen.

This upcoming Hindi film is directed by Pradeep Sarkar who previously worked with Yash Raj Films. Ajay Devgn has produced Helicopter Eela and has stated that he couldn’t imagine anyone but Kajol as the protagonist. Anand Gandhi of Ship of Theseus fame as penned the screenplay that he has adapted from his Gujarati play – Beta, Kaagdo. While most of the film will focus on the mother-son relationship, Neha Dhupia’s character will be instrumental in helping Eela chase her dreams.

If you are curious about the movie’s title, well, it is derived from the term – Helicopter Parenting. It was given to parents who were always around their kids, be it school or a social gathering. Kajol plays one such parent in the movie, which is set to clash with the J P Dutta multi-starrer, Paltan. Anurag Kashyap’s Manmarziyan too was supposed to release on September 7 but will now hit theatres a week later. Will Kajol’s star power be enough to make Helicopter Eela a hit?
