After establishing a name for himself in the Malayalam film industry, Jeethu Joseph finally makes his directorial debut in Bollywood. Down south, he is known for his suspense films like Drishyam, Oozham, and Aadhi, so it’s no wonder that the filmmaker decided to go the thriller way for his Bollywood debut as well. Titled The Body, his investigative thriller is the remake of a 2012 Spanish film of the same name. It stars Rishi Kapoor and Emraan Hashmi as the lead characters, while Sobhita Dhulipala reunites with her Bard of Blood co-star in an important role. South Indian film actress Vedhika also has a prominent part to play in the film.
As the title suggests, the film revolves around a body that goes missing from the morgue. The body belongs to an affluent and powerful businesswoman named Maya Verma (Sobhita Dhulipala), who appears to have been murdered by her husband (Emraan Hashmi). Rishi Kapoor plays the detective assigned to the case of the missing body and suspects Maya’s husband as well, who is revealed to be having an affair with Vedhika’s character. The trailer also drops hints about Maya’s knowledge about the affair and the plan to kill her, suggesting that she might not be dead after all. The mystery unravels gradually and will be revealed in theatres on the 13th of December, 2019.
For a suspense thriller film, The Body also seems to be taking the horror route, as we see Emraan Hashmi’s character being haunted by the spirit of his dead wife. It’s no wonder that the director chose to release the film on Friday the 13th, which has been considered as the day of ‘horror’ in many cultures. While many avoid starting a project on this day, Friday the 13th has proven to be lucky in Bollywood on a number of occasions. The Body will also be releasing alongside Mardaani 2 and Jumanji: The Next Level, which are highly awaited by both Bollywood and Hollywood movie fans. While this film might not have the kind of star power or budget of the aforementioned films, it might just emerge as the surprise winner of the week. Stay tuned to find out!
