Everytime Shahrukh Khan gives her that look, he is saying he loves her. He did that as Raj in DDLJ, and has continued that trend by becoming Rahul (yet again) in Chennai Express. Ranbir Kapoor has tried being cute, has tried being intense, and has marveled everyone with his versatility in just a few years in the industry. Being suave is being a true blue Kapoor. There is little that has not already been said about Bollywood’s Greek God, Hrithik Roshan. After trying his hand at being a good boy in Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, to being a villain in Dhoom: 2, to being the serious workaholic in Zindagi Naa Milegi Dobara, the performance that touched most hearts was Hrithik playing Rohit Mehra in Koi Mil Gaya, following which he became Krishna aka Krrish in the movie by the same name and Krrish 3 more recently. Having said that, Farhan Akhtar stumped everyone by his stupendous performance as the Flying Sikh in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, he won our hearts, and may win all the awards for the Best Actor category at every Award ceremony in the country. When we speak of talent, the supremely-gifted Dhanush deserves more than a mention. His role in Raanjhanaa was so loved that the dialogues mouthed by the actor became a part of everyday conversation for many boys out there. Especially for the ones who relentlessly try to confess their true feelings for a girl but are seldom able to do it. Lastly, there are no award shows this year that will feel complete without talking about this new boy on the block. He has won awards for being the best debutant actor when he entered the industry in 2010. He is now preparing to be the apple of his fans’ eyes for many years to come. Yes, we are talking about the very charming Ranveer Singh, who mostly has a way with words. This was pretty obvious by the way he wooed his Leela onscreen and made her fall in love with him so deeply, that their love for each other showed through spurts of anger, disgust and hatred in Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-leela.
Haven’t watched all the films that released in 2013 and became instant hits with the audience? Read on below, and you will find more than one reason to watch ALL the films. And prepare yourself for the biggest glam affair which will take place in Mumbai on January 24, 2014. That’s right, folks! It’s the Filmfare Awards 2014. What’s more? Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra will be the hosts of this glitzy, jhilmil evening.
Bhaag Milkha Bhaag – Farhan Akhtar’s breathtaking performance, the re-telling of the life story of a legendary sportsperson, and a beautifully-knit, heart-wrenching story directed by Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra.
Chennai Express – Rohit Shetty is popular for creating film content that connects with the audience instantly. This time, however, he took a step forward from the usual action, the usual comedy, and gave us something that we loved so much, that it’s made into the list of Best Films of 2013.
Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-leela – A modern look at Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet, this film opened to mixed reactions. But over the weeks which went by, it has managed to become a favorite amongst those who managed to watch it. Be it Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s version of the timeless tragic love story, or the sizzling chemistry between the lead actors, or the music, or the lyrics… phew!
Raanjhanaa – This film definitely was the surprise hit of the year. From the director of Tanu Weds Manu, this was a film that proved more than just Sonam Kapoor’s acting prowess to everyone (the actress has been nominated in the Best Actress category for her role in the film).
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani – Until we watched the film, we were most curious to see how the ex-flames would fare as a romantic pair in a story that touched many hearts for various reasons. Deepika Padukone, Ranbir Kapoor, a tad badtameezi, great songs, and a story told in Ayan Mukerji’s style of paying attention to detail.
A film’s director is truly the master of puppets. 2013 was a mixed bag of hits and misses. The Top 5 directors are far from the usual names one usually hears in the industry. Newness and a fresh look at films, for the win! Here are the nominees for the Best Director – Aanand L Rai (Raanjhanaa), Abhishek Kapoor (Kai Po Che), Ayan Mukerji (Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani), Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra (Bhaag Milkha Bhaag), Rohit Shetty (Chennai Express), Sanjay Leela Bhansali (Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-leela).
