This weekend, we saw three movies, viz. Fanney Khan, Karwaan, and Mulk releasing together. There were some high expectations from all these movies but while some didn’t do well, others, did well than originally we thought of! Here’s how the movies performed in the first weekend –

Fanney Khan

Fanney Khan is a remake of the Oscar-nominated Dutch film ‘Everybody’s Famous.’ The movie revolves around the story of an aspiring singer from a lower-middle-class background, who must not only fight social prejudice but also manage the expensive proposition of getting ‘launched’ as a singer.

When the matters turn to worse, her father played by Anil Kapoor decided to take matters in his own hands and kidnaps a sensational singer (Aishwarya Rai) with the help of his friend (Rajkummar Rao).

The film earned ₹2.15 crore on Friday and ₹6.75 over the weekend.


Karwaan is Akarsh Khurana’s next after High Jack. It is based on Bejoy Nambiar’s story. The movie is about three protagonists — IT guy Avinash (Dulquer Salmaan), his friend Shaukat (Irrfan) and Tanya (Mithila Palkar). They are completely different from each other and have to travel together on a road trip.

Karwaan’s box office collection improved on the second day and it managed to earn total collection to ₹4.20 crore.



Mulk is a story of a typical Muslim family who had a wayward son. Rishi Kapoor plays lawyer Ali Mohammed who has to go about reclaiming his family’s honor, lost at the hands of a wayward son. Their son is involved in a terrorist attack and they are forced to prove their innocence.


Mulk has earned ₹4 crore as it’s box office collection. The movie has received positive reviews for the most part.
