One of the greatest and undoubtedly the most selfless profession is to serve your nation as a soldier. It doesn’t matter the country you are serving, the passion remains the same. The adrenaline rushing through your veins when you rise up for you National Anthem is a mixed feeling you can’t possibly put in words.
Today, on National Army Day, let’s take a moment to remember and appreciate the countless lives that are lost on the battle field while protecting the motherland. Respect is the least we can do for these army men as we can never experience their anguish.
One of the best ways to celebrate these men is through movies, thus offering a tribute to their selfless acts. Bollywood has experimented and made films focusing on the Indian army since times immemorial. Let us take a look at some of these and recollect some of the best Bollywood soldiers.
Sunny Deol as Major Kuldeep in Border (1997)
You cannot miss watching this blockbuster by J.P. Dutta based on the Indo-Pak War of 1971. Sunny Deol as Major Kuldip Singh Chandpuri was terrific and his intense and realistic portrayal of the soldier is one of his finest performances. And who can forget the magic Javed Akhtar spread through the song ‘Sandese Aate Hain’?
Anil Kapoor as Major Jaidev Rajvansh in Pukar (2000)
Anil Kapoor as the dashing Major Jaidev Rajvansh in Pukar, a spy drama, made all the army men look not just patriotic but also handsome. No doubt, he makes it to our list of favorite Bollywood soldiers.
Shah Rukh Khan as Major Ram Prasad Sharma in Main Hoon Na (2004)
Now, who would not fall in love with Major Ram Prasad Sharma who is perfect at everything? He is a lover girls dream about, a perfect brother, a true friend, an obedient son and above all, a die-hard patriot. Need we say anything more?
Hrithik Roshan as Captain Karan Shergill in Lakshya (2004)
Hrithik Roshan as the confused soul, in the beginning of Lakshya, was nowhere closer to being a soldier or a patriot. But he proved us wrong. The Kaabil star impressed everyone as Captain Karan Shergill with this journey from being an aimless young man to becoming a distinguished soldier in the Indian Army.
The Cast of 1971 (2007)
A true picture of the devastating conditions the Prisoners of War lived under after the Indo-Pak War of 1971, the film featured a talent powerhouse for a lead cast that included Manoj Bajpayee, Ravi Kishan, Piyush Mishra and Deepak Dobriyal. One cannot miss watching these great actors in one frame putting up a spectacular show of honor, courage and sacrifice for the motherland.
Rahul Bose as Major Siddhant Chaudhary in Shaurya (2008)
With communalism, internal politics and aspects of military honor at the core, Shaurya was remarkable in many ways. Rahul Bose as Major Siddhant Chaudhary received a lot of appreciation and we are not surprised why. Sure, it was heavily inspired by the very awesome A Few Good Men (1992) but Shaurya was a fantastic watch by itself.
While Kay Kay Menon played a negative character as Brigadier Rudra Pratap Singh, an exhilarating performance by him showed the pride of an Indian soldier. Javed Jaffrey as Major Akash Kapoor and Deepak Dobriyal as Captain Javed Khan too contributed with incredible supporting roles.
Akshay Kumar as Captain Viraat Bakshi in Holiday (2014)
Akshay Kumar is the new poster boy of patriotism. With films like Holiday, Baby, Airlift
