Actresses in the 70’s and 80’s had an innocence, a charm and a unique definition of beauty. The epitome of grace that these actresses had set can’t be replicated in Bollywood. The golden era of Bollywood saw women who were a lot more than just pretty faces. We take a look at the lesser-known children of the yesteryear actresses.

1. Mumtaz– Natasha and Tanya Madhwani


Mumtaz started working as a child in Soni Ki Chidiya (1958). With Raj Kapoor’s Do Raaste (1969) she became a star. She later married Ugandian businessman and had two daughters Natasha and Tanya. Natasha is married to Fardeen Khan and Tanya is based in London.

2. Vyjanthimala– Suchindra Bali


Vyjanthimala was considered as the first female superstar of Indian Cinema. The actress married Dr. Chamanlal Bali in 1986 and the couple was blessed with a son Suchindra Bali. Suchindra also grew up to be an actor in Tamil cinema.

3. Zeenat Aman– Azaan and Zahaan Khan


The beauty Zeenat Aman might not have been successful in love with two troubled marriages and two sons. The quintessential diva’s grace is still unmatched. She has always said that her kids are her lifelines. Azaan is a filmmaker and Zahaan is a musician.

4. Poonam Dhillon–  Paloma Thakeria, Anmol Thakeria


Poonam Dhillon, the former Miss India has acted in 80 films so far. In 2017, there was a buzz about Sanjay Leela Bhansali would be launching Anmol Thakeria. Her daughter, Paloma Thakeria is as stunning as her.

5. Nutan– Mohnish Bahl


The diva Nutan got married to a Naval Lieutenant-Commander Rajnish Bahl in 1959. Mohnish Bahl, her son grew up to be a critically acclaimed actor.

6. Waheeda Rehman-  Sohail Rekhi, Kashvi Rekhi


Waheeda Rehman was cited as the most beautiful actress in Bollywood once. She married actor Kamaljeet and had two sons. Sohail and Kashvi are both writers now.

7. Meenakshi Seshadri -Josh, Matt, Kendra Mysore


Meenakshi Seshadri worked with Sunny Deol, Anil Kapoor, and Mahesh Bhatt. After her marriage to investment banker Harish Mysore, she shifted base to New York. She teaches Bharatanatyam, Kathak, and Odissi. The couple has three children, Kendra, Josh, and Matt.

8. Nirupa Roy– Yogesh Roy, Kiran Roy


The ‘Maa’ of Bollywood got married to Kamal Roy at the age of 15. They have two sons Yogesh and Kiran. Ironically, after her death, both of them fought over the property.

9. Suchitra Sen– Moon Moon Sen


In 1963, Suchitra Sen won the  Silver Prize for Best Actress for playing a disillusioned alcoholic in Saptapadi. She married Dibanath Sen, son of wealthy industrialist Adinath Sen, in 1947. They had a daughter, Moon Moon Sen who also grew up to be an actress. 

10. Vidya Sinha– Jhanvi Iyer

Vidya Sinha worked in films like Pati Patni Aur Woh, Rajnigandha and more recently Bodyguard.  She got married to her neighbor, Venkateshwaran Iyer in 1968 and adopted a daughter, Jhanvi, in 1989.

We wonder why some of them never came into the limelight.
