5 Movies You Didn’t Know Had Alternate Endings

It is very common for movies to go through a number of changes before the final cut is released in theaters. Some of these changes could include a change in the cast, deletion of scenes and in certain cases the reworking of the ending, even.

There are many reasons as to why a filmmaker may decide on a different ending instead of going for the one that was originally planned. It could be because the first ending didn’t test well with the audience or perhaps someone involved with the film didn't feel it would be appropriate.

In this article we have listed five popular movies that had alternate endings:

Pink (2016)
This courtroom drama, directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, revolves around three young women played by Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari and Andrea Tariang who are implicated in a crime. It is a retired lawyer (Amitabh Bachchan), who takes it upon himself to fight their case.

Pink opened up our minds to prejudices against women and their life choices. It ended with the girls getting the justice they deserved. Reports, however, suggest that this is not how the film was supposed to end. In the alternate ending, the girls lose the case.

Furious 7 (2015)
In the case of Furious 7, it was Paul Walker's death that required the ending to be changed. In the final cut, we see Brian (Walker) retiring with his family away from the world of crime. The earlier versions of the script, however, had Brian remaining as a part of the crew.

According to director James Wan, the ending we see now makes sense since it worked as a tribute to the late actor, Paul Walker.

PK (2014)
Rajkumar Hirani's PK is about an alien (Aamir Khan) who is trying to find his way back to his own planet. In the process, he forces people who are set in their thinking for generations, to reappraise their world when they see it from his innocent eyes.

In the end, we see PK returning to Earth with a friend from his own planet. According to Vidhu Vinod Chopra, the film was originally supposed to end with Jaggu (Anushka Sharma) and Sarfaraaz (Sushant Singh Rajput) remembering PK by doing the battery recharge dance. However, after multiple test screenings, they arrived at an opinion that everyone wanted to see PK back on Earth. The makers decided to then reshoot the end.

Delhi 6 (2009)
In the end of the Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra film, we see Roshan (Abhishek Bachchan) preventing Bittu (Sonam Kapoor) from eloping with the photographer she is dating. He confesses his love for her and is attacked by the town folks who mistake him to be the kaala bandar. Roshan is injured, but he survives.

In the original idea, Roshan was supposed to succumb to his injuries.

Rocky (1976)
The Sylvester Stallone-film, Rocky, is about Rocky Balboa (Stallone), a small-time boxer, who gets a chance to fight heavy-weight champion Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) in a bout. From what we see in the film, Rocky manages to survive the barrages of punches and twelve brutal rounds of boxing against Apollo.

In the alternate ending, Rocky throws away the match, takes the money being offered by Apollo and uses it to open a pet store with his girlfriend, Adrian (Talia Shire). Now, we wouldn’t have liked that, would we?
