Movies are a brilliant way of storytelling. They have the power to keep the viewer occupied and if executed well, act as the perfect source for infotainment. Biopics are a classic example of how a movie can take you back in time and show you everything that a certain individual had to go through. They are like the time machines of Indian cinema and we’re certainly obsessed with biopics right now. We witnessed some of finest stories in Neerja, Mary Kom, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and now it’s time we brace ourselves for more to come.

Here are 10 Biopics that’ll revolve around various people and bring their life to the big screen.

1) Mogul


The movie is based on the life of T-series fame, Gulshan Kumar. Founder of the music label and a big shot Bollywood producer, Kumar’s life was full of twists and turns. However, things turned nasty when he was murdered at the age of 41. He was shot dead outside a mandir in Mumbai. It was said that Mumbai’s underworld organization D-Company was involved in his murder. From failing to pay the extortion money to a personal dispute, there were many reasons behind this cold-blooded murder.

Akshay Kumar will be playing Gulshan Kumar on the screen while Gulshan  Grover will be playing the character of Dawood Ibrahim. The film will release in 2019.

2) Manto


The movie has received a lot of accolades even before its release in the country. Directed by Nandita Das, the movie was screened at the Cannes Film Festival and managed to leave the audience awestruck with its gripping story and Nawaz‘s brilliant performance. The movie revolves around the life of the Indo-Pakistani author, Sadat Hasan Manto in the 1940’s where he wrote about the harsh realities of the society, landing him into controversy. Manto is all set to hit the big screen in India around mid-2018.

3) Untitled Film On Sania Nehwal

For sports addicts, this one is going to be a visual treat for it brings to the big screen, the life of ace badminton player, Sania Nehwal. For now, the movie’s name has not been disclosed but we shall be seeing Shraddha Kapoor play Sania’s role. Shraddha’s not new to biopics and has previously played Haseena Parkar on the screen.
Shraddha is not leaving any stone unturned when it comes to getting into the character’s skin. She has been taking extensive training under badminton coach Pullela Gopichand. Directed by Amole Gupte, the film is expected to hit the theatres by September.

4) Untitled Film On Kalpana Chawla


Our Desi Girl Priyanka Chopra is acing at life right now and turns out to the best at everything she does. Not just Hollywood, she is also planning to take Bollywood by the storm with not just Salman Khan’s ‘Bharat’ but with also this biopic based on the Indo-American astronaut, Kalpana Chawla. This will be her debut production with Viacom 18 and needless to say, she will be the one playing Kalpana on the screen. We can’t wait to see this inspiring woman’s story played by another extremely inspiring woman.

5) Super 30


The movie will revolve around the life of Anand Kumar, a mathematician from Bihar who trains 30 deserving and economically backward students for the most prestigious exams of IIT each year with a commendable success rate. After winning hearts all across the globe in ‘Kabil’, Hrithik is all set to conquer the biopic genre with his role as Anand Kumar. His look from the movie already looks very impressive and certainly makes this one of the most awaited biopics. The movie will hit the screens in January 2019.

6) Salute


Shahrukh fans are in for a treat as he will be seen on the big screen not just in ‘Zero‘ but also ‘Salute’ which is based on the life of Rakesh Sharma, the Indian astronaut. The role was first offered to Aamir Khan who was looking forward to work on it but due to the shortage of dates, it was eventually Shah Rukh who was roped in for it and we honestly can’t wait to see him come back with a bang!

7) ’83


Cricket and Bollywood fans couldn’t get a better combination than Ranveer Singh and Kapil Dev. Ever since Kabir Khan announced his biopic about Kapil Dev, fans have been trying to track every movement. For now, we know that Ranveer will be playing Kapil on the screen and the film is scheduled to release around April 2019. It is expected to go on the floor by mid-2018.

8) Soorma


Diljit Dosanjh took the industry by a storm with his brilliant performance in ‘Udta Punjab’ and he is back to claim his place now. The Punjabi superstar will be seen playing Sandeep Singh, former hockey captain in the film ‘Soorma’ and we can’t keep our calm. Diljit went through extensive training and hockey sessions to get his role perfectly and he did all of this under Sandeep Singh himself. The film will release on July 13 and we can’t wait to see Diljit on the big screen again.

9) Jhalki


Not a lot of people know about this biopic based on the life Kailash Satyarthi because unfortunately, not a lot of people know this man. Satyarthi won the Nobel Prize for his work towards to eradicate child labour. He also founded the Bachpan Bachao Andolan in 1980 and has been protecting the rights of children in over 144 countries. Boman Irani will be seen playing the role of Kailash Satyarthi. While talking about the movie, Boman revealed that it revolves around a little girl looking for her missing brother. The movie was shot in Meerut with the temperature going as high as 47 degrees. Kailash’s story needs to be heard and we look forward to watching this on the big screen.

10) The Accidental Prime Minister


Based on the memoir with the same name, ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’ will show the life of our former PM, Manmohan Singh. Directed by National Award winning filmmaker, Hansal Mehta, the movie has Anupam Kher playing Manmohan Singh’s role. Pictures of Anupam as Manmohan Singh show uncanny resemblance and we can’t help but appreciate the signature turban and glasses look. The movie is set to hit the theatres in December this year.

So, not just ‘Sanju‘ or ‘Thackrey The Film‘ but these 1o biopics are also going to retell a part of history.
