Prem Ratan Dhan Payo: Trailer Launch

Long before even the first poster was out, this film had everyone- the audience, stars, the media- buzzing about it. Because being cast in a Sooraj Barjatya film is a huge deal. Look at his track record and you’ll know why. As Salman Khan said so eloquently at the launch, “I did my share of mistakes; he didn’t do any.” This was just one of the many accolades exchanged by Mr. Barjatya and Mr. Khan. While Sooraj called Salman our real “dhan”, Salman returned the compliment by naming Sooraj Babu “the best director and human being in this world.”

All actors may not be so effusive in their praise of the director, but even Sonam Kapoor admitted she felt lucky to have been cast in a Rajshri film, and opposite Salman Khan at that. Looking gorgeous in an elegant white and gold lehenga, she spoke about being “excited and nervous” about shooting with a man she’s admired since she was 14.

Other than the lead pair and the director, the stage was graced by Anupam Kher, Neil Nitin Mukesh (who defined smart casuals in a black jacket with jeans and red shoes), Swara Bhaskar, Deepak Dobriyal, and Armaan Kohli. The head of Fox Star, Vijay Singh, and the head of T-Series, Bhushan Kumar, were also on stage with the other producers from Rajshri. Much was made of the fact that Sooraj and Salman are making a film together after 16 years (!). Swara Bhaskar seemed appropriately thrilled to be a part of this project, and Anupam Kher mentioned that this is “Salman’s best film till date.”

With all this hype, catcalls were bound to resound when the trailer played. We wondered whether they were all for Salman or for the sheer grandeur of the film. Nitin Desai, who designed the sets for the Salman-starrer Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, has designed the sets for this film as well. And it does look as colorful and lavish as a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film. Salman’s resplendent blue kurta, which apparently took a month to be finalized, was as applauded as the royal sets of this period drama. His fans should keep their fingers crossed- Bhai may be in a double role

Watch the trailer here to be wowed by Sooraj Barjatya’s epic reunion with Salman:

Salman claims that “you leave the theatre a better man” after a Sooraj Barjatya film, and it’s a “hangover that lasts”. Whether that actually happens remains to be seen on 12th November. Till then, you can look forward to the music which will release by 10th October, Bhushan Kumar promised.
