Girish Malik is a household name in the Indian Television industry. He produced and directed various shows and ad films including popular shows like Rishtey for Zee and Mission Fateh – the mega show based on Indian Army on Sahara. Now Girish Malik is all ready with his first directorial debut for the silver screen- Jal.
Jal garenerd critical accolades at the Busan International Film Festival. Jal is the only Indian film that competed in the prestigious film festival. Also, Jal was the official selection in the Indian Panorama section at IFFI Goa.
"I am very anxious now, beacause this the real home, the real test- the aam Janta, our own Janta" says Girish Malik. Jal stars Purab H Kohli, Kirti Kulhari, Mukul Dev, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Saidah Jules, Yashpal Sharma and Ravi Gossain.
Jal tells the story of "Bakka"- a young water diviner. Divulging in the topic of water paucity, Jal is a beautifully-complex story of love, relationships, enimity, deceit and circumstances that bring about the dark side of human character. Purab Kohli who will be seen in the lead role of Bakka feels that shooting the film was lot of fun even though lot of hard work was involved. "While shooting the film it was the first time in my whole career that I said, actor kyon banna yaar," exclaimed Purab. Kirti Kulhari who shot to fame after her role in Shaitan, will be seen in a very raw and powerful character. "I am dumbfound right now!" said Kirti. "As an actor it has been a very hard, yet beautiful experience; no matter what we went through while shooting the film, today it feels like it’s worth it," she added.
The first look and theatrical trailer of the movie was launched at a special event held on February 25th in suburban Mumbai.The 2 minutes and 30 seconds theatrical trailer is a visual treat that gives you a glimpse of the elements of the film.
The film has managed to capture ‘Rann Of Kutch’ like never before. "My camerawoman, Sunita Radia, did a brilliant job," said Girish. Talking about promotion of the film, the director feels that theatrical promos are very important. "We will push ourselves to max and will ensure that it reaches all levels of audience," Girish Malik stated.
The music of Jal is composed by Sonu Nigam and renowned percussionist Bickram Ghosh. This is the first time the duo will be composing for a Bollywood film."It’s been challenging to compose music for Jal, but it has been absolutely wonderful," said Bickram Ghosh. With his known sense of humor Sonu Nigam added, "Both of us are really happy people and that’s why we bonded pretty well." "Jal wasn’t the usual Bollywood film where we can add a romantic number, a sad or an item number, it is was different, " said Sonu Nigam. The film’s title song is sung by eminent classical singer Shubha Mudgal. "One element that Girish was hell-bent while discussing about music was passion," said Bickram Ghosh. "We really hope that people will appreciate our hardwork," adds Ghosh.
The Hollywood Reporter applauded Jal as "a breathtakingly photographed tragedy of Shakespearean proportions." Releasing on April 4, Jal definitely promises a lot to the masses. Here’s the trailer of the movie.
