A while before Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra’s Namaste England made its way into cinemas, the Bollywood jodi was set to appear in a black comedy titled Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar. However, after multiple delays, the film seemed to live up to its name. Directed by Dibakar Banerjee and produced by Yash Raj Films, the release date for Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar has been pushed back several times and we finally know why.

The film was originally announced back in 2017 by YRF to be a quirky thriller starring the Bollywood duo. The film went on the floors by the end of that year and was wrapped up in January of 2018 with actor Arjun Kapoor announcing an August 2018 released date release date for the film.

Since then, Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar’s release was pushed to March 2019. Following that, it was also reported that the film could finally make its way into cinemas towards the end of June this year which eventually also fell through. Now, there is no official confirmation of when we can catch the film on the big screen.

Earlier this year, Arjun revealed that the reason for this was that filmmakers were trying to avoid a clash with other films at the box-office. He stated, “Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar is a unique multiplex film and we need a window of opportunity to release it. Namaste England was ready in the time Dibakar sir was cutting the film. So, we pushed it for later as we needed a gap between the two films.” Speaking of the second time the release date had been pushed, he further added, “Then, Luka Chuppi and Sonchiriya happened to be opening on the same date that we had decided for Sandeep Aur Pinky… Why would you want to get into a three-way tussle? The film is ready and it’s just a matter of releasing it at the right time.

Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar will now mark Arjun and Parineeti’s third collaboration with each other, after Ishaqzaade (2012) and Namaste England (2018). Meanwhile, you can check out their first look from the film below:

The film stars Arjun as a Haryanvi police officer while Parineeti plays an ambitious woman working in the corporate industry. Both characters are completely different from each other and the film is about how they are united by their mistrust, suspicion, and hate for each other. Director Dibakar Banerjee stated, “This feels like my first film, again. I’ve had to unlearn everything I know to tell this story about a man and a woman who can’t stand each other but can’t survive without each other.

The filmmakers haven’t zeroed in on a new release date for Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar, and we do hope to catch it in cinemas soon. Stay tuned to this space for the latest updates and click on ‘Interested’ to know more.
