Getting a break in Bollywood may be tough, but sustaining a career is an even bigger task. A big launch doesn’t guarantee a great career and actors have to continuously bag big films, sign endorsement deals, and indulge in publicity stunts to remain in the limelight. How often do we see actors starting their careers on a high and within no time, they’re out of work? While some actors are forgotten, a few somehow manage to re-establish themselves. They make the most of their chances and luck plays its part, too. Here are the actors who in spite of many ups and downs, are still highly in demand:
When Ishq Vishq released, Shahid was touted to be the next Shah Rukh Khan. He later starred in films with his then girlfriend, Kareena Kapoor. But a string of flops followed and until Jab We Met, Shahid’s filmography wasn’t great. After Jab We Met, he’s had just two big hits, Kaminey and Haider. He won the Best Actor award for both. His current lineup seems very good and his next, Shandaar, will be releasing this Dussehra after which he will be teaming up with Vishal Bharadwaj again for Rangoon.
Anushka had a dream debut in Aditya Chopra’s Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi but was overshadowed by Shah Rukh Khan. Since she had signed a contract with Yash Raj Films, her next two films were under their banner. It was with Band Baaja Baaraat that people started noticing her and 2014 changed her career as she signed Bombay Velvet, PK and Dil Dhadakne Do. Though Bombay Velvet, for which she is rumored to have gotten cosmetic surgery, bombed at the BO, her other two films helped her turn things around. As of now, she’s shooting for Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil which stars Ranbir Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
Kangana’s success story may be the best in Bollywood. With her debut film, Gangster – A Love Story, she proved her acting skills, but was not considered a successful commercial heroine. Vikas Bahl’s Queen changed that. She received rave reviews for her performance in the film and then backed it up with the brilliant double act in Tanu Weds Manu Returns. Her next film is Vishal Bhardwaj’s Rangoon which also stars Saif Ali Khan and Shahid Kapoor. From what we’ve seen, there’s no stopping Kangana.
Vidya Balan’s first film was Parineeta, for which she won many accolades. Later, Vidya didn’t have good luck with mainstream films and was criticized for her sense of style in films like Heyy Babyy. But some fantastic film choices like The Dirty Picture, Paa and Kahaani helped her bag National Awards and make a name for herself in the industry. Sadly, the talented diva is once again facing a lull in her career. Here’s hoping she bounces back soon!
