An esteemed member of the Hindi film industry, filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra has brought a lot of popular films to the big screen. He is an award-winning screenwriter and iconic producer under his own banner Vinod Chopra Films. He has worked on acclaimed films like the Munna Bhai franchise, 3 Idiots, PK, and more. Now, 13 years after his last Bollywood directorial Eklavya: The Royal Guard, he is set to return with Shikara. Touted to be “the untold story of Kashmiri Pandits”, the upcoming romantic drama is written, directed, and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra.
A day before the release of Shikara’s trailer, we got our first glimpse of the never-before-told story in the form of a motion poster. Take a look at it below:
The film takes us back to the time of exodus in 1990 when the biggest forced migration in independent India took place with more than 4,00,000 Kashmiri Pandits forced to flee from the Kashmir Valley. These Hindus now continue to live as refugees, 30 years after those fateful events. Vidhu Vinod Chopra‘s Shikara follows the story of two such Kashmiri Pandits, Shiv and Shanti, and it chronicles their story of survival in exile. It is the story of resilience and a love that remains unextinguished to keep hope alive in the face of insurmountable odds.
We also got our first look at the couple at the center of this timeless love story in the worst of times. Check out the film’s latest poster below:

Another exciting element came in the form of the Shikara’s theme song which is composed by none other than A. R. Rahman. He performed the track at the trailer launch event. The film also acts as a tribute from Vidhu Vinod Chopra to his mother Shanti Devi Chopra. A recently released video shows her returning to the Kashmir home that she was displaced from 1o years earlier.
The film’s trailer details the violence through the story of one Hindu couple as over 4 lakh Indians were made refugees in their own country. Check out the powerful trailer below.
Presented by Fox Star Studios and produced by Vinod Chopra Films, Shikara is set to release on 7 February 2020. Click on ‘Interested’ for the latest updates on this film.
