5 Sports Biopics To Inspire You Before Sachin: A Billion Dreams

Sachin Tendulkar is one of the most beloved and respected cricketers of our generation. Now, we will get to see him on the big screen in theaters. While it is a documentary, it's not the first time audiences will flock to the theaters to see the life of a sports star. Before Sachin: A Billion Dreams releases in cinemas, we have a few more inspiring sports biopics that let you look at some of the most notable people across all fields of sport:

M. S. Dhoni: The Untold Story

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is yet another cricketer whose story made it to the theaters. M. S. Dhoni: The Untold Story chronicled his life from a small town to becoming an internationally renowned cricket star.  Sushant Singh Rajput played Dhoni on the big screen in a portrayal that was inspiring while being true and deeply touching.

Paan Singh Tomar

The story of this athlete-turned-bandit might not have a happy, wholesome ending, but it shows a very real picture of India that cannot be overlooked. The low-budget yet highly appreciated film raised the questions of how our former athletes are treated. Irrfan Khan managed to play the difficult role flawlessly, immortalizing the unsung hero in Bollywood.

Mary Kom

Not only is this sports star inspiring, but so is the success of her biopic. Mary Kom went against all odds to win a medal in the Olympics, something few Indian sportspersons achieve, even with more training. A film with a leading female actor is not very common in Bollywood, much less a sports biopic. But Priyanka Chopra pushed the boundaries with her training and did Mary Kom justice.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag

At a time when Milkha Singh's contributions to Indian sports was being forgotten, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag released, reminding us, once again, about the greatness of the Flying Sikh. Covering not only the life of the athlete, the sports biopic also handled the sensitive subject of the partition of India with respect.

With the blockbuster DangalAamir Khan brought us the true story of Mahavir Singh Phogat who trained his daughters Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari as wrestlers who went on to win the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Their inspiring story was appreciated worldwide, breaking many box-office collection records.
