It is a lot more than just time that goes into portraying a character for a movie. It is one person portraying an entirely different person in their own different ways. There are many actors who entertain us by lending their special skills to a character and then there are some who put everything that the character is into themselves to portray a role.
They have to adapt to the look, the body language and most importantly the dialect and the language. And there are many Bollywood stars who have been there and done a phenomenal job. Recently, Aamir Khan played the role of Mahavir Singh Phogat in his latest flick Dangal where he was seen in an avatar nobody could have imagined him like. He put on 25 kg to play a 60-year-old man and then lost almost the same amount of weight for a couple of scenes as the younger version of his character.
He also learned to speak Haryanvi and those of us who have seen the movie know how effortlessly he pulled it off. And the list is not limited to him, there are many other actors who learned and spoke Haryanvi for one of their characters. We have listed seven of them below:
Salman Khan was seen in an entirely new avatar in his last movie Sultan. He played an Olympics winning wrestler Jatt who also wins an Indian Wrestling league "Pro Take Down". His Haryanvi accent was not critiqued on the meter of accuracy but on the meter of cuteness where he got 10 on 10.
2016 was a year for Anushka Sharma. She did two of the most hyped movies – Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Sultan. She was praised for both of them. In Sultan, she played a female wrestler from Haryana who delivered solid dialogs in Haryanvi. It was also her first movie with Salman Khan.
Although Dangal was like a debut to Fatima, she didn't let us feel that way when she was on the screen. And you can credit this success to her hard work and guidance of the perfectionist. She played the role of Geeta Phogat and won all our hearts.
Kangana has got the craft right, as many say. She has proved that her acting skills can be relied upon. In the sequel of the much acclaimed Tanu Weds Manu, she played a double role. Her introductory dialog is still practiced by many who wish to learn Haryanvi language.
Being a Jatt himself, it was not very difficult for him to speak Haryanvi. On the other hand, Randeep was pretty thrilled about playing a Haryanvi for the first time after 15 years of his Bollywood career. And he fully justified his thrill through his acting.
If there is Shah Rukh Khan sharing the screen space with you, it is almost impossible to get noticed, but this is one of the rare cases where Chitrashi Rawat AKA Komal Chautala managed to do much more than just catch our eyes. Everyone remembers how the hockey player managed to beat every counter statement thrown at her.
Known for his role of the supporting husband of Mary Kom, Darshan Kumaar showed his true potential by playing the killer brother in NH10. He played a Haryanvi Jatt who kills his sister and her beloved in the name of honor. If you watch the movie you'd want to kill him, but if you see all his movies you'll know what an amazin actor he is!
